Roxy - who is just over 8 months old, has been in season for the first time since last week, after searching on COL all the usual symptoms seem to be present but I can't seem to find anything re enlarged nipples - hers are quite a bit bigger and hard - are enlarged nipples normal for a bitch in season or could this be a symptom of a phantom pregnancy. She seems to be fine in every other respect. Sorry to appear so clueless but she is my first dog. Hope someone can put my mind at rest.

Ellie's nipples were the same on her first season, They did go back to normal a few weeks after her season. If they stay very swollen it can be a sign of a phantom. But on the whole I think it is normal for them to grow due to hormones.

Thanks, that's put my mind at rest, will keep an eye on them just in case.

Sweepies were larger than normal on her last season and returned to normal a few weeks after her season finished ;)

Thank goodness for COL - all the books I have give very minimal details on coming into season - thanks for your answers.
