This evening at 7pm we are off to our 1st of 2 puppy socialisation classes (or puppy parties as they call them)!
They are organised by the local vets and tonight there will only be 3 other puppies So Herbie will be eased in gently!!
Any tips before we go?! :D

Enjoy and relax. Your puppy is more likely to do the same if you do. ;)
-
Excellent :)
It's quite sad, I'm actually excited to be going to meet other puppy owners to see what their experiences are!!
I'm just worried Herbie will act like a hooligan and try to pounce on all the puppies ::)
-
Enjoy yourself. When Kali went she was the only one with an identity tag and the others got told they were illegal :005:
-
Have a great time - I think I enjoyed them more than Roxy did!! She just spent the whole time trying to steal the treats we were told to take for training and trying to avoid all the other dogs - but by the last session she had improved enormously and was sitting, lying down etc. with the best of them. Have fun!!

Sounds like the best job in the world - a puppy party organiser!
Feel a change in career coming on.... :005:

How did Herbie get on?
-
Well, it wasn't exactly what I expected!
He's usually such a livewire at home, i was expecting to get expelled from the classes :D
But I was quite surprised at how laid back he was, he performed a sit and down superbly!!
When it came to the off lead playtime he wasn't really bothered tho :-\
He wasnt scared he just went for a wander and came back to sit at my feet he wasn't really interested in the other puppies ???
He kept looking at me when he say as if to say, do I get another treat ?!
Hmm, I hope MIL's dog hasn't put him off.
He met her terrier X for the 1st time last weekend and she snapped at him :(
Fingers crossed next week he'll be more adventurous!
-
Maybe he was overwhelmed? When Kali went, she was the same and kept running back to Daddy. He got told off for picking her up ::)
-
He probably was a bit.
He'd also had his jabs on that day so he was probably feeling a little 'out of sorts'.
He seemed quite small compared to the other pups, there is a maximum age of 15weeks for the 'puppy party' but there was a rather playful black lab who seemed huuuge compared to Herbie :D
Even I was careful so as to not get knocked off of my feet ;D
Hope he feels more at home next week :D
-
As Sheryl says, he probably was a wee bit overwhelmed.
Hopefully he will be his normal self next week.

Alfie spent his first puppy socialisation class hiding behind my legs and trying frantically to climb onto my knee, he wasn't a happy bunny at all but the second week he bounded in like he owned the place and was the most boisterous one there. The vet nurse who ran the class thought I'd swapped him for a different puppy :005:
-
Ahhhh... bless him, make the most of the 'not bothered' phase it wont last long once he gets used to the idea :005: Don't worry about the bigger pups too much, most cocker pups I know are very good at screaming when they think they might get damaged... which usually stops bigger bouncier beings dead in their tracks!

ps. Er photo's????? :D

Coco was quite unsure the first time she met other pups - she soon got over it though and turned into a little hooligan beating up all the other pups there ::) :005:
-
It doesn't sound like he was fazed by it. The fact he wasn't bothered and just came and sat down is a positive sign. Well done :D
-
Aw. Well done :D
I'm not sure we have those in our area. But I will find out tomorrow as Puppy (unnamed as of yet - but will probably be going with Marlee) goes for his first injection. (Bailey also goes to be microchiped).
I am looking forward to puppy classes after Christmas though.
Yesterday morning my brother and his girlfriend brought round their 11wk old Lurcher puppy, and they LOVED playing together! They got on like a house on fire! It's gonna be really nice for them to grow up together. We (me and my brothers girlfriend) are going to enrol them both in Puppy Class not far from us. So, I'm looking forward to that.
As they'll know each other well by then, I sure hope the pair of them don't gang up on other pups :005:
