Title: Very sleepy 1 year old
Post by: archie71 on January 08, 2008, 09:05:50 AM
Hi,  I have been visiting this site since my DD had her puppy Archie a lovely black cocker, he was one yesterday but for the last few days has been very sleepy, still eating and drinking fine but lethargic in himself.

Is this a stage he is going through or should we be worried, many thanks for any advice anyone can give.

Have you looked at his gums - do they look pink or pale? also inside the eye, is this pink?

Only say this as Fenn had anaemia and this can make them lethargic??

Thank you for your reply, his gums etc are nice and pink. I was wondering if it was because over the last few weeks he has had a lot of people around making a fuss of him and now he is back in his normal routine he is just not happy, as he sometimes cries for no reason.

It could be due to the past few weeks upset of his routine. Has he been fed extra 'treats' over Christmas that might have upset him a little do you think? It could also be that he is calming down a little as he is growing up  :-\ .

Is he still as bouncy as he used to be when out on walks or is he sleepy all the time? My eight year old is quite capable of chilling out and being incredibly laid back during the times in between walks, especially during this cold wet spell, but as soon as I make a move towards her lead she becomes a whirling dervish  :005:.

Fern gets clingy and 'squeaky' if she is not feeling well. it is usually when I haven't been able to get out and walk her and she gets a wee bit constipated. A good long walk sorts her out.

I would be a bit concerned about him crying :-\ . There is probably a reason for this that you are not yet aware of. I would keep a close eye on him and if he is still more lethargic than you are comfortable with in a week, I would pop him to the vets for a check over to put your mind at rest. Do keep us posted as to how you get on  .
