Title: Pride comes before a fall ...
Post by: ludo on February 20, 2008, 08:04:23 PM
Just as I thought I had thought of most things as regards getting Dax used to handling and grooming including feet - he will let me do anything with them except the scissors!! - reality check  :005: I had managed to trim his pads when he first came home but hadn't thought anything more about it cos they didn't need cutting until now - so feeling all proud of myself  ph34r (and having been used to trimming feet with my Lhasas a bit of pride snuck in  :-\).  Having tried again now 6 weeks later he doesn't like it one bit  >:D  (the scissors or having his paws held soooo lots of cocker grumbles and shaking of head  :005: you get the picture  ::) ... But I have a plan :005: The paw game - give me your paw and let me hold it and you get a treat (he likes this game  :luv:) - he is groomed every day already and is getting much more used to it so now I stand him with his collar and lead on and do the paw game  :005: - grumble, grumble - but the treat goes down well - mmmn - this will be part of the daily routine - I snip the scissors near the feet and let him sniff them - so far so good - next will be to do some cutting of feet gradually increasing the length of time - but scissors will be part of the routine every single day  :005:

Sounds like a good plan. These dogs do like to batter our pride don't they?

Sounds like you have formulated an excellent plan. In fact I think I'll introduce Eric to this game. Thanks for the idea and good luck
