Hiya,
Rio's been a little it pongy the past couple of days, I bathed her yesterday to get rid of the smell, but the smell didn't go. I've just looked in her ears, the left ear is fine, but the right ear is really red and painful looking. Its really smelly. I gently wiped it and thats when I saw this horrible lump, about the size of a pea. I thought it was wax, so gently tried to wipe it away, but it bled so is something more. Its covering up her ear hole. I'll take her straight down the vets on Monday and have it looked at. It can only have come up in the last couple of days as I checked her ears on Thursday. Its not bothering her at all. My other dog (Penny) has been shaking her head a bit today - I have checked hers and cleaned them, but can't see anything. Has anyone had anything similar with their cockers? Would a photo help?
She's been so good, letting me look at it, wipe it etc. She is such a good girl, I love her to bits, its horrible that she's got something like this :'(

Edited to Add two pics - sorry they're a bit disgusting, but I'm really hoping someone will be able to help. I'm a worried cocker Mummy:

:o ouch poor thing. :-\ I have no idea but i hope someone who does comes along soon. :-*

Thank you Beth. I need positive thoughts  I know I'm a natural worrier, but I've got myself in a right tiz about it! Its times like this that you really realise that they are just so precious to us! I hope its nothing too bad and can be sorted ASAP. I just hope its not hurting her too much - its not like you can give them a spoon full of Calpol or a couple of paracetamols is it :'(
-
Poor Rio.
It might be worth taking her to the vets if you are worrid about it.
A couple of weeks ago my Toby had a Red Lump in his ear the size of a Pea and that did bleed a couple of times,we took him to the vets and it was a histiocytoma. Here's the thread i started http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=38890.0 maybe its one of them

Thanks for that Sarah. I just did a search of the 'Health' section and found your thread - poor Toby :( It looks quite similar to what Rio has. Did Toby's ear smell? I think Rio's smells because the lump is actually covering the ear hole so the air is not getting round. She's definately going to the vets on Monday. :'(

Did Toby's ear smell?
Yes it smelt a bit & he didnt really like us looking at it,he still doesnt and its gone now ::) .
Good Luck at the vets!

Poor little Rio, hope that it gets better quickly, It does look and sound like Toby's lump.
Hugs to you and Rio.

Thanks Jenny
After googling for the past hour, everything points to it being a Histiocytoma (what Sarah's dog Toby had). A lot of sites say that they go down by themselves, others say they need to be op'd on. I think this one will probably need removing ASAP as it is getting more smelly by the moment. :-\ She's scratching it a bit but nothing much, so hopefully not bothering her too much.

Aw, poor wee soul. :'( Good luck at the vet on Mon.
Hugs and kisses to you and Rio

Aww poor baby :'( ..hope its something that can be sorted quickly, sending healing hugs x

Thank you for your kind messages. Rio is not a well little pup today. She spent all morning pottering in the garden, but since lunchtime she's been very sick and shakey. She was sick about six times in one hour. We phoned the vets, but by the time the vet had called back, she had perked up and stopped being sick. We said we'd give it a couple of hours and see how she goes. She's been asleep on the sofa next to me for about twenty minutes. I'm hoping thats a good sign, as shes settled and not sicky. I cleaned her ear earlier, that looks just the same.
I just feel so sorry for her, poor baby :'(
-
Hugs to you and Rio - hope you have stopped being sick now and start feeling a bit better now. :luv:

Poor Rio. Good luck at the vets tomorrow.
It looks really nasty the poor wee mite. I hope she gets on ok at the vets tomorrow and she stops feeling so sickly.
Does she feel hot or does the ear feel hot? How are her gums looking? Is she taking in lots of fluids?
Sorry for all the questions, I just feel really concerned for your gorgeous little pup. ]
Big hugs xxx

Thank you for your concern :luv: I've checked her gums, they're pale pink, but thats quite normal for her (I check them fairly often). I'm giving her water in small amounts, which she is drinking. Her ear feels hot, but they both do and so are Roxy's (my other pup) so probably normal. She hasn't been sick for a good hour, so fingers crossed thats cleared. The vet said to feed her nothing at all today, but if she remains sick free, I think I might just give her a tiny amount of chicken later on this evening. She's quite a slim pup anyway (eats a lot, but is so active that she burns it all off!).
Hugs to you and Rio - hope you have stopped being sick now and start feeling a bit better now. :luv:
- thank you. She's getting lots and lots of cuddles in her blanket :luv:
I'll be much happier though when shes seen the vet tommorrow!

Hiya,
Am popping out for a little while now, so thought I'd best give you an update! Well, thankfully she seems a lot brighter! She's stopped shivering/shaking and has been playing by herself with her toys. I've given her a tiny amount of moistened kibble. Mum has cooked some chicken for her, which I'm going to collect shortly and give her at some point this evening so long as she stays bright.
Her ear still looks (and smells!) horrible. Hope the vet has a good solution for it tommorrow. She shakes her head a bit and sometimes scratches it, but doesn't seem to be bothering her too much thankfully.
I get soo worried over it all - I've had a raging headache all day!
Thanks for all your kind messages, its very much appreciated! :luv:

Sorry to read your posts about poor Rio, Holly. :'(
I agree; the lump does look like a hystiocytoma but hopefully tomorrow your vet will be able to advise you & put your mind at rest.
I do hope Rio soon recovers. :-*

Good luck at the vets, and don't forget to let us all know what happens xx

Forgot to post when I got back earlier. I opened the door to find the bin knocked over and a j cloth shredded ALL over the floor. It didn't matter at all, I was just pleased to find her happy and well! We weren't out long, but we spent the time saying "do you think she's okay?" "do you think we can go back to Rio now?" etc! Her ears are even smellyier and she's shaking her head but its not bothering her too much. Will let you know how she gets on at the vets.
Thanks again for your lovely messages :luv: - it really is appreciated.

We have had a couple of dogs with histiocytoma's on the outside of their ears and within 3 weeks of twice daily applying grapefruit seed extract they had disappeared....I wouldn't recommend GFSE for Rio as hers is someway actually in her ear. Good luck at the vets..

Hi Every1, its Rio here!
Thought I'd better reply as Mummy so tired out with all the stress Ive caused her ova the past few days!
Well, I went 2 the doctors this morning, and the lady said it was almost definately a Histiocytoma - so well done COLers! She'd never seen one in the position I've got mine - typical! ::) Anyway, she said to leave it for a fortnight wen it shud drop off, but in the mean time to apply antibiotic ointment. So, Mum and Dad will have to put up with Miss Smelly Ears for a bit longer!!! If it duzn't go, then I'll have 2 have it taken off.
My tummy is better now. Mummy sez its cuz I'd probably eaten manky stuff in the garden - but you know I wudn't do anyfink like that dont u!
fank u all 4 your kind messages :luv:
lots of love and slobbery kisses, Rio x x x x
