I'm just after a bit of advice really, Summer has been sick quite a few times today, everytime I let her outside I have trouble getting her back in because she won't stop eating the grass. I know dogs are often sick but what concerns me is that she can't settle. She keeps pacing around and when she does lay down she keeps changing position and can't seem to get comfortable. Is this because she feels sick or could she be in pain. Do you think its OK to leave it until tomorrow to see the vet?
-
Oh wend so sorry to hear this, poor Summer, I don't know what to suggest. I'm sure someone will be along to offer advice soon. Let me know if I can do anything. Healing thoughts to Summer. :luv: :-*
-
My dogs tend to eat grass, I think helps them to bring things up. Has she posssibly eaten something outside, Check her gums they should be a healthy pink colour. If they are pale I would seek advice from your vet. You can ring them anyway just for advice. Dogs tend shiver/shake when they are in pain. Hopefully just be a tummy upset, but if you are concerned give your vet a ring.
-
Try and encourage her to drink plenty and keep an eye on her. If she seems hungry try her on boiled rice and chicken.
If she won't drink or seems to be getting worse phone the vet.
Poor Summer, I hope she's feeling better soon :-*
-
Thanks for the replys. I got really worried this evening as she seemed to get worse, she was kicking her back legs when she laid down and also starting whining. I telephoned the vets and had to take her down straight away. He examined her and thinks she has swallowed something thats caused an obstruction (something triangular), they're operating on her now so I'm waiting for a phone call.
-
Fingers crossed its a simple op and she will have a speedy recovery. Thinking of you both.
Lxx
-
Hope she's ok, It's surprising what they do swallow. glad you phoned the vets it's hard to advise when you can't see them. Positive thoughts for your baby.
-
Oh poor Summer
Hope the op goes well ;)
Can you think of anything triangular she could have eaten??
-
Oh I hope she's ok Wend and the operation is straightforward :luv:
-
Thank goodness you were so on the ball with her!

Well done with your quick response.
I hope the op goes well, try to relax I'm sure your gorgeous Summer will be fine.
Sending big hugs to you all.
-
Oh no - I hope she's ok ((hugs)) to you :-*

Playmobile! My son got the big box out in the conservatory yesterday, he's supposed to keep the door shut because Harvey loves things like that. Never thought it would be Summer though.
-
Oh my. Thank goodness you were on the ball.
I am sure she will be fine after a few sore days.
Poor little thing.
-
blimey Wend hope Summer is ok

Hope all goes well with the op :luv:

Just had a call from the vets, they removed two bits of rubbery plastic that got stuck between the small and large intestines, but that everything else seemed healthy. She's just coming round from the anesthetic and I should telephone in the morning. Isn't it amazing how quick she's been treated, I can't fault them at all. Thank goodness for pet insurance!

Pleased you have heard from them and she is going to be ok. They do know how to worry us don't they. Thank Dawg for pet insurance.
-
Oh Wend, I am so glad Summer is alright, that must have been a worry. Hope she is home soon and feels a lot better.
-
Thanks for all the good wishes, it really was a worry. My husband thought I was mad phoning a vet on a Sunday evening, but I was really worried that she would die if I left her all night. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but by the time I took her to the vets she wouldn't move, she had stopped following me around, which she does all the time so I had to carry her to the car. Still I'm sure she's feeling a bit better now and hopefully she will have a good nights sleep, as will I. :D
-
I'm glad Summer's OK now - what a worry for you.

Well done for acting so quickly.

Hope you have a good night Summer. :luv: :-*
-
Wishing her a comfortable night and speedy recovery :luv:
-
Aw poor Summer and what a scare for you :-\

So glad she's on the mend
-
Hope she's feeling back to her old self again :D
-
Sending wishes for Summer to be better soon :-* :luv:
-
Hi everyone, thanks again for all the replies. The vet phoned this morning to say she's 'bright as a button' :luv: with no more vomiting. They've got her on a drip and will try her with some water tonight. She will probably come out tomorrow but they need to be sure she can eat and drink without problems. I haven't been to visit her, she is so clingy I think it would upset her more to see me then leave her again. I'm sure when she's feeling better she'll let them know by howling the house down (she does have some seperation anxiety issues :005:). I'll keep you all up to date with her recovery. I much just say it's such a comfort to be able to come on here anytime for advice, doesn't seem to matter what time it is there's always someone on here.
-
Ive only just seen this :o so glad Summer is better and hope you all had a good nights sleep lastnight :D
The little monsters they certainley know how to worry us ::)
-
thats good to hear Wend :D
-
don't know how I missed all this - well done for acting so quickly, and it sounds like you have a fantastic vet :luv:
I think you're absolutely right not going to visit - it would make her more fretful when you left...mind you I had to go and collect mine from the vets last time because he wouldn't eat anything, and they figured he would be better off at home ::) (he was drinking ok and weeing but refused to eat anything at all ph34r )
Better get that chicken and rice cooking for her homecoming, so pleased she's on the road to recovery ;) :luv: :luv:
-

Harmy would only eat when i was there, which is why the vets let me be with him so much, well and the circumstances ph34r, but hopefully they'll let Summer home soon anyway
-
Glad to hear Summer's on the mend and hope back with you tomorrow :D
-
Just caught up with this thread, glad to hear Summer is on the mend, Rupert and I send her lots of :luv: :luv:
-
Have been offline for a few days so only just caught this thread. Thank goodness you acted promptly and Summer is ok. I would have done exactly the same thing. No-one knows their dog than their owner ;).
-
So glad Summer is on the mend! :D Sending healing thoughts (and "no more eating junk thoughts" :005:) :luv:
-
Glad to here ummers op was a success and she is recovering well. Hope she's home soon.
-
So pleased to hear Summer is getting better (((hug))) ..what a fright for you x
-
So glad she's on the mend and hoping she's back with you tomorrow :luv:.
When Murphy was in, the vets were trying to tempt him with all kinds of food which he refused, then out came the cat food and apparently he wolfed it down.
-
Sounds like she is doing well.
What a fright.
Bet she has learned nothing from the experience!
-
Glad to hear that Summer's so much better, Wend. :D
-
I'm really glad Summer is on the mend too. I didn't go to see Alfie when he was in the vet in January for the same reason, it would probably have upset him when I left again. I hope you can get her home tomorrow and she's back to her normal self soon... well maybe without the mystery object eating! :005: :luv:
-
Just had a phone call from the vets, Summer has eaten well :005: but is very depressed :luv: I'm going to collect her at 6 o'clock. Will let you know how she is this evening.
-
Aww. hopefully she will perk up when you get her home.
-
I'm sure she will, she just needs my lap to curl up on :luv:
-
Aaaw, poor baby - she just wants her mum. :luv: :luv: Hope she is safely home now and getting loads of cuddles to help her forget her ordeal! :-\ :luv:
-
Hope Summer is now back home enjoying lots of tlc & cuddles after her ordeal ;).
-
Hope that Summer is home now. Went through the same thing with Apollo our springer and although it is very scary when it is happenning he made a complete recovery.
Sending you :luv: and positive thoughts
-
Hope that you have got Summer home and that being spoilt rotten has improved her mood :luv: :luv:
Give her a gentle squish from me :-*
-
Well she's home now and quite happy following me around everywhere. She's got to eat the prescription diet in cans for a while and only small portions (she's starving) and she's on antibiotics. Thank god for dog insurance, it would have cost us £715.00, luckily we only have to pay the first £70. When I went to collect her the vet said she had spent the weekend with her 'partner in crime', it was a little Westie that had to have a freezer bag removed from his intestines literally a couple of hours before he got called out to Summer. We both left at the same time with us carrying their tins of food :005:
Anyway she's back on Tuesday for a check up then back a few days later for the stitches to be removed. Harvey has been really quiet while she's been gone and he was so pleased to see her when she got back, following her everywhere and having a good sniff :luv:
-
I missed this thread and have just read it all! So glad she's on the mend and back home where she belongs :luv:
-
Glad she's back home and she's happy now. Such a lucky girl making a friend, lets hope they weren't comparing notes on naughty things to eat next time.
-
:luv: Glad to hear Summer is home and doing well :D
Thinking of you Jann :luv:
-
Aww hugs to Summer. :luv:
Hope she recovers quickly. :D
-
So glad she is home and is alright. Ellie sends gentle kisses and hopes she soon feels properly better.
-
Glad she is doing better now.
-
Really pleased you have Summer back with you I also had a fright with Jenny on a Sun night vommiting blood but was inflamation of stomach , I thought she had swallowed something. Summer will soon pick up now she is home with you Joan and Jenny
-
So glad she is home now, hope she is feeling much better :luv:
Our Billy had a similar scare with a corncob. He is fine now, but still with eyes bigger than his belly, have to watch him like a hawk >:D
-
Glad to hear that Summer is back home and following you around again.
-
Thats good news I am so pleased Summer is recovering well and home with her mum!
-
Can you believe it, my sons friend left the stair gate open >:D and Summer ran upstairs and ate the cat food. ::) Having to watch her carefully now as she's only supposed to have small portions of prescription diet. I gave him and my son a good 'talking to' and after leaving it open again an hour later >:D >: (Summer was in her crate) have decided they can't play in the house until she's better. Sorry about the moan but why don't they listen. >:(
-
Oh no what a worry for you. Hope Summer is ok and the cats go a refill!
-
Cause there kids playing and its in one ear and out the other :-* :-*
Like Louise getting hit in the eye by the battery thrown by her brother, devistated at the time, but now when they argue they are still throwing things. ph34r
I hope this doesn't unsettle Summer Wendy she was doing soooo well.
Is it worth giving the Vet a quick ring ?
-
Well it was a few hours ago and she seems fine, I'm not sure how much she ate so I'll just miss her food out this evening ::)
See you tomorrow Sally.
-
Was just checking in to see how Summer was doing.
Hope there is no ill effects from the cat food.
Sending her more gentle squishes :-* :-*
-
No ill effects so far however I'm still waiting for her to do a 'number two'. She hasn't been since she came home :shades:
She seems really well in herself and she's not biting the stitches, so fingers crossed she'll soon be running in the fields again with Harvey :luv:
-
Hope a Numero Duo appears at some point today ;) Post-op and medication can apparently slow things up in that department. Sure she will produce the goods for you very soon ;)
-
Any new on the numbers 2 for Summer yet wend :005: I'm sure she must have by now bless her. :luv:
-
Yes the number two's arrived sometime ago. She's been to the vet and had her stitches out and seems to be very well. Just got to book her back in to the groomers as she's a bit of a hair bear now :005:
