Max is a year old. We were told he had ingrowing eyelashes. His eyes are still weepie. Will he need an op?
-
Only your vet can answer that. It depends on how severe the ingrowing is. Sometimes it can be helped by rubbing vaseline around the eye to smooth down the hair and keep it out of the eyes.

hi i really don't want to alarm you but our cocker had ingrowing eyelashes, we had every kind of vetinary creams and treatment, even took to bathing them in cold tea to no avail, the eyes kept getting clogged up and wet and red, and she used to rub them a lot on her paws, probably to itch them
in the end we had to take her to an eye surgeon who took a very narrow strip of the skin off where the eyelashes grew, she looked horrendous for a day or 2, but after that, absolutley no problem at all.
in effect Coco had an eye lift,
i wish you well.

isnt it called entropian or something?? (probably got that wrong :-\ ) I came across a puppy with that once and was told by the vet that its nothing to alarmed about and a small op like cocodog said and it will be sorted for life, (the op costs around £150 so i am told  )

Aww wee poppet :luv:, hope you get it sorted :luv: :luv:

Entropion is quite a serious eye condition - it's caused by the eyelids turning inwards causing the lashes to rub against the eyeball which can be very painful & result in corneal ulcers. Distichiasis is a less serious condition caused by extra eye lashes growing abnormally inside the eyelid margin - sometimes there are only one or two extra lashes and sometimes a lot more. You'd need to get your vet to tell you which condition your dog has before deciding on any treatment (entropion often needs surgery whereas distichiasis may need no treatment or can be treated with electrolysis). You could ask your vet for a referral to an eye specialist - I'd always recommend this for any eye condition really.

Twix also had this op and has been fine since, though her eyes are still a bit weepy at times, especially first thing in the morning. They are not getting infected or bothering her though the way they used to when the eyelashes were scratching on her eyes. I would definitely speak to your vet about it. If Max's eyes are getting infected then he is likely to be in serious discomfort.

The vet said jenny had entropia but treated her with electrolysis. We have a vet at Marske near Redcar who specialises in eye problems, I was going to take jenny but the electrolysis was successful
