Indie has a quirky little thing that she does with her dinner.
She gets fed her kibble in the kitchen, she always takes the first two pieces of kibble into the living room one by one and eats them, before coming back to her bowl and eating the lot :005: If she can't get into the living room (if the door is shut, she won't eat her dinner until she can take the two pieces of kibble in there to eat :005:) Its so bizarre to watch, I just wondered why she does this and if anyone elses dogs have any little rituals they do before eating.
-
Yeah, Molly does this!! Always bring her first mouthful into the living room ::)
Honey however just wolfs it all down!!
-
Buddy's ritual is to inhale his food as quickly as he can then have a good look around to see if there's any more ph34r
Indie's ritual is so sweet, but I have no idea why.
Does she seem relaxed or stressed as she does it?
-
Ou ritual is not like that, ours is just get stuck in and eat it all fast as possible then 10 minutes later make out to the other hooman you've not been fed for years. :005: :005:
-
Coco has BARF and I feed her outside - If she has a mixture of stuff, she always takes anything with a bone out of the bowl and puts it on the stones on the patio, comes back and eats the mince or whatever and they goes back to eat the bones. ::) I have tried to discourage this as I was worried she would bite on a stone at the same time but she persists so I have given up! ::) :005:

Shes very relaxed about it, its as if shes having a taste to make sure its suitable for her pallette :005: If the living room door is shut, she will just stand there looking at it, until it gets opened, then off she goes, taking one kibble in, eats it, cames back, gets another one, takes in the LR then comes back and eats the lot :lol2:
P'haps its the doggy form of fine wine tasting :lol2:

Both Saffy and Shelley have kibble and perhaps a few veggies for their main meal. Whilst this is being prepared, Saffy howls and Shelley does repeated pirouettes ::) Then, when I am ready to serve they both sit on command before being let loose on their bowls ph34r...'tis a sight to behold.........we timed them once and after 12 seconds both dishes were empty !!! :o then, and this is really sweet, they check one another's dish just to see if anything may have been missed    as if........................
-
Lola also does this...she takes a few bits of kibble ..moves away from the bowl..places them on the floor..eats them then gets on with the rest of her dinner :-\...theres nowt as strange as dogs :005:
-
Scooter is another "wolfer" - I don't think he's ever left a morsel of anything in his bowl...once scoffed, he starts whimpering, hunts around for a suitable soft toy, carries it around a bit (whilst whining), places it carefully down and "howls" over it.....hilarious to watch - I think he's telling his "babies" about the lovely dinner he's just had! :005: :luv:
He is affectionately known as the "fridge magnet" as he is always there when the door opens!
-
Mine are both on Barf so just wolf it down as fast as possible! They're fed outside and Zorro usually takes his boney meals to one particular spot in the garden and Bella stays on the decking.
When he was tiny and it was winter we fed him inside, and he'd have two chicken wings, and would take one to his basket and leave the other in the bowl, then have this dilemma over what to do because somebody might want to steal the wing in the bowl ph34r (Bella was fed outside and couldn't get in so it was all in his noddle ::)). So he'd leave the wing in the basket and run back to his bowl grumbling, then think "oh s**t, the one in my basket!!!" and leg it back to his basket, then back to his bowl etc etc. Eventually he realised that if he just ate both wings by his bowl he'd be okay... ::) :lol2: :luv:
-
Poppy does this too. Both of mine are on a dry food / BARF diet. If they're having just Burns, she comes walking through eating the first mouthful and then goes back for the rest. If I mix something like a wee bit of sardine with her kibble, she licks the good stuff off the kibble and spits the kibble onto the floor....and then eats the at the end. :005:
Bramble does the whole inhalation of food thing. :lol2:
-
My two always come through to the living room chewing, then, they look at me and OH, and wander back into the kitchen and keep eating!
-
Murphy takes his first mouthful of kibble and drops it on the kitchen floor - eats the rest from the bowl and then eats the stuff he's dropped.
-
Twix gets a handful of kibble in the morning and her proper dinner at night. At night she just wolfs the lot down, but in the morning she takes one or two pieces into the livingroom and eats them there. Very odd because I am usually in the kitchen when she does it so it is not as if she is looking for company!
-
Roxy always places her nose on the opposite side of the bowl and just uses's her tongue too scoop the food in her mouth! It is as if she don't like the smell or doesn't want too dirty her ears as she does this with her water bowl too. Rizzo eats hers in seconds of it being but down and always burps after!

Jessie is effectively a hoover is called JessieDyson lol :005:

Mine don't have a ritual as such but both my last cocker and Dave will not eat until someone tells them too (then it gets wolfed down at 100 mph :005:) Trev took this to an extreme one night when myself and ex were having a 'disagreement' one of us fed him and put the bowl down but forgot to say ok, then we continued our 'heated discussion' until 30 mins later my ex realised that Trev was still sitting next to his bowl watching us and waiting for someone to say 'OK' so mid rant he said 'OMG...... OK!!!!!' and Trev smiled appreciatively and calmly ate his dinner... we ended up in fits of giggles.... end of heated discussion!
My Weim however, doesn't have such good manners.....

Parker opens his mouth and sucks in air and his entire bowl of food ::)
Mrs B comes with me into the room where the food is kept then gets all excited and runs round and round in circles about 90 (and yes, I have stood there and counted! :shades:) times until she eventually circles her way into the kitchen where shes kicks the cupboards until the bowl is put down :005:
Ronald just sits patiently and waits to be fed!
-
Kali just eats normally but Chloe used to fill her mouth until her cheeks bulged like a hamster and then she would go away, spit them all out and chomp through them slowly :luv:
-
Charley has his food, Frolic, in his bowl permanently, but he always has something else after the evening meal. This depends on what we have - chicken, steak, pork, beef etc., and some is cut up for Charley and given to him in another dish. He always takes the first few pieces into the hall and eats them there. He will then finish the rest of it in the kitchen.
He has his Frolic whenever he wants it, and will usually go to the kitchen and bring a few pieces to eat in the lounge.
-
There are far too many of them doing that whole walking away with the first mouthful for it to be coincidence. I wonder what the reason is for them doing it.....any clever behaviourists out there?
-
mine does it too ph34r with kibble, and even with chicken wings.
He picks the first wing one out like it's covered in poison and gently lays it by the bowl, and then will eat the rest quite happily. He then scoffs the toxic one he's left by the side of the bowl last.
I'm quite relieved that he doesn't follow the same procedure with tripe ph34r
he also needs to be encouraged to come to his bowl, even with Tripe. Maybe he thinks we're trying to poison him permanently and we should hire His Highness a royal food taster?
-

Sounds a bit like my two, though if Ruby finishes 1st she nicks Wilfs but if Wilf does he just hovers as her daren't nick Ruby's ::)
-
Honey definately needs to be encouraged to eat - though she has improved recently! Her kibble she will sniff, wander away, wander back, pick some up, drop it somewhere, then she *may* start eating.
Her chicken wings she *must* take through to the hallway (our poor carpet!) - and at times she will sit and look at it as if it is poisoned... before wolfing it down! :005:
She was very funny after her recent spay, as she still did the take a mouthful, wander away, wander back routine, but was *so* hungry it was sped up about 50 times - she'd inhale a mouthful then do a quick little circle around before inhaling some more - I have *never* seen anything like it - I was in stitches (even at 4am, when she had decided she was *still* hungry!!!!!!).

Same ritual as my two!! ph34r :005:

I know she's not a cocker, but Lucy does this with every single mouthful. ::) I'm sure you can imagine, dinner takes quite a while in this house. >:(
-
I am so glad you have put this thread on. Ellie takes 2 pieces of kibble into the hall, comes back and eats all the rest straight out of her bowl then goes back to the hall to eat the 2 pieces she left there.
I have always found this fascinating and its really interesting to know so many other cockers do similar things.
-
My Barney has done this since the day we got him, he gets out a couple of peices of kibble, takes it away from the bowl, puts it on the floor, eats it and then finishes the bowl. Weird, I wonder what it means?
-
my 4 just dive in until every last bit has gone
-
When Daisy was an only dog she would do the same sort of thing - pick up a mouthful of food and bring it to whichever room I was in to eat, then go back for a bit more.
Cooper inhales all of his food within 10 seconds then goes hunting for more, so after he arrived Daisy learned quite quickly to stay by her bowl and eat as fast as possible, or she wouldn't have any left :005:.
-
Maudie always takes a mouthful of kibble into the living room too! I just thought she was odd lol it seems she isnt the only one! :005:
Also if you give her a treat she has to hide it first then she will go back and eat it later! She wonders around for ages with it! She usually hides it under the sofa cushions.
-
Daisy will whine and cry whilst I prepare her food, as if it was at least a whole week since she was last fed (!), :005: and then when I put her food down, she'll look at it as if to say, "I'm not eating THAT!" ph34r Seconds later it is gone, followed by a burp. The disdainful look makes me laugh every time!

Romeo is like Rizzo his foods gone within seconds he then runs through to me for a cuddle and proceeds to burp in my face..Lovely!! :005:

Harvey has his dinner in the kitchen, but will walk to the living room while chewing :005:, then he walks back to his bowl, gets another mouthful, then back to the living room, in the end I bring the bowl of food into the living room where he will eat it without going back and forth, I glad he is not the only cocker that does this, such strange dogs these cockers are :005:
-
As soon as we start getting Jarvis' food out of the cupboard (Nutro Choice Lamb and Rice) he runs out of the room. Once we put the bowl down, he comes in and sometimes eats it. Recently we started putting his bowl up on a box as it is less strain on their necks apparently - he normally knocks it onto the hard kitchen floor where it makes a loud clanging, which makes him jump.
Regarding water, he drinks about half of it and lets the other half dribble onto the floor/down himself - he's not a clean drinker :)
-
Amber's ritual after food is to run around the house with a chewy stick (which she only ever uses for this purpose) in her mouth whining and looking agitated. This lasts up to 10 minutes then she calms down. There is never a pre-dinner ritual, it just gets wolfed down almost in one gulp!
-
Nope ... Dax doesn't do it ... he scatters kibble absolutely everywhere :rofl1: one mouthful - wanders about scattering as he goes ... chomping and dropping bits and pieces - I would not have believed kibble can get into so many places :005: Your puppies ritual really is a very tidy one - bless :luv:
-
(What feeding rituals does your dog have)
None! :lol2:
Nell (Lab) just dives in and doesn't come up for air, till her dish is spotless :005:
