We got Alfie at Christmas so he is almost 6 months old. We've never had a problem with him at all until recently - Everytime someone comes to the house he wets himself!!! But only with strangers he's fine with us. Has anyone got any idea why?

Is he weeing with excitement rather than fear? Peeing when hyper and excited is really common in young dogs; I'm sure he'll grow out of it. I would try to get visitors to ignore Alfie when they come to the house and wait until he settles down before they say hello to him.

My Charley seems to trickle when i leave the room shutting the door, ie if i need to answer the front door, or im running the mop over the living room floor and dont want him in there etc
Iv not had a problem with him doing it when people come round - just a roll over tickle my belly please :005:

Glen used to do this out of excitement and we just ignored it and made people ignore him unitl he calmed down. He doesn't do it anymore ;)

Same with Alfie. He excitement wee'd when he was a pup but he gradually grew out of it, he graduated to jumping all over people instead ::) :005: I didn't do anything when he did it other than to tell the other person to mind their feet didn't get splashed :005: If they ignored him he would soon settle down.

Lola also left a wet calling card when we came home or visitors arrived :005: we also just ignored it and she did stop doing it...i just put it down to excitment ;)

Thanks for the advice but things have gotten even stranger now - he's started weeing in the house now and he's always been excellent with toilet training from day one - how bazaar!!

my first port of call would be a trip to the vet to get him checked out incase he has an infection or something then once you know there isnt a medical reason you can get to work figuring out why he is doing it

Oh bless !! I think that sometimes they can't help it when they are young, especially if they are a little bit shy themselves ... I have never know it to persist and you shouldn't feel embarrassed either for yourself or for your dog .. They are fighting the urge to flee in reality - nature tells them there is a threat and they need to void their bladder (and bowels sometimes!) prior to running away - the release mechanism is not something they can control sometimes, and all you can usefully do is to reassure and not make anything of any wet patches - just ignore the wee and I'm sure that before long, this excited reaction will get under control :)

I had this problem with my springer. We used to call it his emotional bladder! Although it seemed mean we had to ignore him as well as the wee when we returned home until he calmed down. We also told all visitors to ignore him or we wouldn't be responsibile for wet feet. We also ended up changing all our carpets to wooden floors. Over the years he has got much better but even now at 8 years old we always take him outside and make sure he has a wee before grandad comes as grandad always brings him a treat and spoils him straight away. Grandad has been harder to train than the dogs! I have got to say though that Apollo has always had good bladder control at all other times. It literally was when he was excited or when someone was making a big fuss of him.

This is sometimes a form of submission, i've known loads of our puppies to do it, they do soon grow out of it, bless them!

Murphy was terrible for this - he grew out of it, think it was just excitement - not that I get any exciting visitors :005:

Quincy also did this til almost a year old (hes 14 months today), pretty much with everyone that came in, he stopped doing it when i came in only a couple of months earlier though? you try to do the best thing that your supposed to do but not doing high pitch hellos and stuff and ignoring them, but who can do that when you got a little wiggle bum usually with something in his gob doin circles on the floor in front of you :005: its very difficult to ignore! any way they should grow out of it so dont worry too much :005:

Arwen used to do this all the time espically when we entered the room. We just ignored her and she got used to us coming into the room and stop doing it. However when my mother in law arrived down to us a few weeks ago for dinner Arwen weed with excitement. My mother in law was so happy to see her that she got the dog excited. My OH does get her excited every now and again (espically when he has been away for a night) and she does have her accidents but apart from that she doesn't wee. So the best thing to do is ignore her when you come into the room, and try to let your dog calm down and your floor will appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!

we fostered a 18 month old jack russell and he would wee when we came in but we ignored him for 5 mins and he stopped doing it, as for the weeing in house now ,sorry no idea perhaps hes confused
