Charlie and I are training for our gold good citizens and we are struggling a bit with the exercise where he has to stop immediately on command. ::) Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like him to stop regardless of whether he's coming towards me or going away from me, and I'd like to use a clicker to train it. :D
Thanks!!! Silke

No ideas I'm afraid but would be interested to know how to do this. I use a whistle for a change direction command but could really do with a good stop for Zorro...

why don't you ask Top Barks - he'll know - you could pm him? ;)

have a tasty treat or toy in your hand and let your dog know you have it. Set your dog up a short distance away with someone holding him if needed. Have your hand full of goodies by your side and recall your dog from a short distance. As he comes towards you raise your hand swiftly above your head from your side this usualy gets the dog to pause in it's tracks at which point you click and throw the food behind the dog.
This also works with a toy or ball if your dog is that way inclined.
Once this is happening progress to clicking for a sit or a down, which ever you want.
Also practice your sits and downs at a distance as a seperate exercise.
Hope this helps.
