Title: colour of puppies

How can you tell the colour of a puppy at 6 days old from a light blue roan, black and white or black and white ticked? if after 6 days nose and paw pads are still pink with no black rims appearing, but under the fur on the back you can see very small patches of black on the skin. What have you got?  :-\

I think that 6 days is a bit young to know either way.If there is some black under the coat then you probably have a blue roan. With black and white ticked its a little harder as the ticks often dont start coming through untill they are already in thier new homes.

What if others already have black noses and paw pads  :huh:  :huh:

If a pup has a totally pink nose & pink pads at 6 days old, then he/she is most probably black & white or black & white ticked. The pink nose would be a give away for me - even light roans tend to have a more or less fully pigmented nose by a week old.

on the same lines, can anyone tell me how old pups have to be ,when the breeder can most likely tell how roany they are (sorry about roany but its 5.30am and i cant think of a better descriptive word) :D,

my puppies were all clear when they were born,

but one had a pink nose,

Following on from this and sorry for nicking your post but....
Eric had pink patches on his pads until about 2 months a go (he's now nearly nine months). Now his pads are all black so I have now changed my mind again  ::) and decided he is light blue roan. Please correct me if I'm wrong

 I'm not an expert, really, I have a lot to learn! but I would say Eric is light blue roan......

Diego is just sooo gorgeous. I think him and Eric would make a great pair, maybe you could send him to me  :luv:
