Name: Della
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: approx 5 years
Kids: Good
Cats: Good
Dogs: See below
Fostered in Newport
Della has been with us in foster for about 2 weeks now. She is a very affectionate little dog and has lived happily with our other foster, Evie. The only problem that arises is when another dog wants affection off us. Then she becomes very possessive and drives them off. She has, however, never done this to Evie so I think she would settle in quite happily with another dog she accepts.
She also suffers Seperation Anxiety. She gets very upset, anxious and barks when she finds herself on her own. Whilst another dog is present, she is fine. Any adoptive owner will need to be aware of the problem and be prepared to continue working with her to overcome it.
She loves the car and is a good traveller but likes to sit on a seat. She does not play with toys but is learning to play with Evie. She likes her bed and will happily lie in it whilst she can watch you working around. Very willing to return when off the lead, she picked up her new name very quickly. Quite a quiet dog, not too bouncy or demanding in ways other than those mentioned.

how hard is it to get a rescue dog as ive never done anything like this before ,and what actually happens, sorry about the question

Hi Bev,
If you take a look at the adoption procedures page there are some general rules, e.g other dogs being neutered, vaccinated etc. Dogs not being left for more than four hours at a time, no children under 5, but sometimes these are flexible based on the dog.
You would need to go and meet the dog (with your current dog) at the foster home. Mostly it's a case of whether the dog is right for your family and whether you are right for the dog.
If you are interested in Della please complete this adoption form - http://www.fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk/downloads/adoption_application.doc and send it to enquiries@fourpawsanimalrescue.org.uk.
Hope that helps,
Em

Can you send her recorded delivery please :005: :luv:
-
i think i sent it all back wrong, im going to send my details again, and find out some more details about della
-
I am so pleased she has found her forever home, i hope she will be well loved. She is so beautiful she deserves the best. :luv:
-
Her background is unclear, seems she was bred from before and dumped. >:D
I wouldn't be surprised if she was one who was bought in the free ads cheaply, bred from, and then dumped as so often happens (AnnieG's cocker Cassie was)
I've met Della and she's very sweet but needs someone who will follow the rescue's instructions (one simple one is not to try to overcompensate with what you may think her life has been previously --- giving a dog structure and boundaries is far better for them in the long run than constant fussing over them when they arrive)

I have been interested in Della for a while and have been speaking to her foster mum regularly. I had hoped to have her.
Now, there's no messing, but she has become possessive of people. If other dogs try to get some affection from you, she wants it all, so she goes for them.
I can't this with my Angel as she is so young - what a blow! :'(
as with all things this is something that can be worked on --- she clings on to the 1st thing that gives her any attention but am sure with work it can be dealt with (I have had dogs here that would do similar but I worked on it from day 1) --- for anyone else who may be interested in her

Penny mentioned earlier that my Four Paws girlie Cassie has a very similar background to Della. She also had very similar problems once the honeymoon period (brief!) was over. But it was really quite simple to sort out. Basically, we banned all trigger points like the sofa for both our dogs and we simply didn't over fuss her. When she was good and calm, she was hugged and rewarded. When she had a tantrum, we turned our backs on her and got on with something else. And we made sure she had plenty of good, fun exercise so she was too tired to cut up rough for long. Millie (the other dog) took it all in her stride. We never, never, ever did anything to frighten Cassie or make her feel more insecure. The worst telling off she ever got was 'Daft dog' in a bored voice. It really didn't take long and today she is just a joy to live with. :luv: :luv: When we have new dogs in the house she occasionally reverts but it only takes about 20 minutes to remind her of the facts of life. ::) ::) I really wouldn't allow something like this to put you off if you are really keen and are prepared to rein yourself in for a few weeks. She sounds a lovely dog who deserves a decent life.

Can anyone tell me if Della's been adopted and found her forever home, yet?

I met this lovely girl on Saturday, she really is a sweetie and just needs someone with time and understanding to help her.

Me too - she's very beautiful to boot!! :luv:
-
Poor love is a very confused little girl who really needs a home to call her own. While she's not an ex puppy farm girl its more than likely she was just used to breed by a BYB then dumped or got out and owners don't really care to look for her.
-
Is she still possesive of people?
She can be but only around other dogs but again its something that could be worked on but any new homes would have to work on it from day 1 and be more firm with her. I have always worked on this sort of thing when I've had fosters in
-
Della is reserved and will hopefully be heading off to a new home soon.
-
Fingers crossed :luv:
-
A lady i know was very interested in Della i wonder if shes having her :-\
-
Thats fantastic news, i'm so glad that she has got a forever home, i hope she has a happy life :luv: I have been following this thread and think she's beautiful. If Marley had been more settled i would have offered her a home.

-
If it is the lady I know, she is not on COL no, but I see her most weekends. :D
-
No don't know the person but know a bloke has been homechecked for Della --- he already has a lab boy.
-
Oh, well that isn't the person I was thinking of then.
