Not sure if this is the right place to ask this.
Someone has said to me that you can only register certain colours of cockers: Black, Golden, Blue Roan and orange roan, I didn't think this was true so I thought here would be the best place to ask?
-
I've never registered a litter myself, but my black & white has KC papers that state her colour as Black and White so what you've been told can't be true.
One of the other members can prob list all the colours recognised with Kennel Club thou

The KC will accept any colour for Cocker registations. There was an attempt a while ago to get the KC to limit registrations to traditionally accepted colours but this was rejected so anything goes really - I often see registrations for "champagne" Cockers not to mention "apricot roan" etc ::)

Hi guys, thanks for that!!
I knew it couldn't be true!!

:005: a champange cocker!!!! I love when people try to posh up their dogs! Altho I do admit that 'chocolate' cocker sounds far nicer than 'liver' :P how long before 'chocolate' gets changed to 'truffle' tho?! ;)
-
After meeting my first ever orange roan on sunday - the words apricot and cream sprung to mind! Very beautiful colouring! :luv:

If you look on the breed standard for cockers (not sure where that is, maybe someone will post a link!) it lists the 'proper' cocker colours. Think the champagne colour should actually be sable??? I would stay away from a breeder that was advertising 'different' colours, as I would wonder if they actually knew what they were on about - except liver/chocolate (see below!)
Roxy is registered as chocolate roan when really she should be liver!!
-
The Breed Standard just says "various" in relation to colour - it's never listed the accepted colours (even though we might prefer it did :D) I don't think "champagne" is meant to be sable as very few breeders have this colour - where I've seen it used to register a pup, I think it refers to a pale gold but the breeder obviously thought "champagne" sounded more exotic :D

Oh I see, this is what I meant
http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/colours.htm
but I suppose this is just the cocker spaneil club guidlines so its not 'official' I guess! I think I would still prefer a breeder to stick with the traditional colours!!

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would never register a Liver Roan as Chocolate Roan, it's LIVER and has been for years, "Chocolate" is a newer term and although I don't particularly mind it in my eyes it will always be Liver ;)
-
you are right really but I prefer to think of her as 'chocolate' so much nicer than 'liver'!! :005:
