Firstly there is nothing on TV so I have found dog Borstal :embarassed:
I have just heard on there 'Dog's can't digest broccolli, pork or beef' :o
Can you please let me know what you think - I'm off to do some research :D
-
Have never heard that - although I have heard that dogs should not have large quantities of brocolli - can't remember why though. ;) Since there are plenty of commercial dog foods containing beef, I find that a strange claim  As for pork, Coco often has pork ribs etc as well as brocolli and beef and judging by her poo, has no problem digesting any of them. :005: However, having studied her poo over the last couple of days I can definitely say that dogs cannot digest poulty corn :o :005:
Would be interested to know who said that and how they back it up - since a lot of rubbish is spouted on DB personally I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. ::)

I would trust this comment as much as I trust their training methods ph34r

mmm that's what I thought and couldn't believe it when I heard it (My lot get pork, beef and brocolli plus loads of other stuff )
Joules - it was MM (the one that want's his owners wearing black)
from the bit they let you see (highly edited IMO) the owners were giving the dogs table scraps, but they didn't say what their main food substance was or how much of what they were getting :-\
-
Yup - Honey gets pork and beef. She has had broccolli when we've had it, though I too have read that they shouldn't have too much of this...
Sounds like they're talking twaddle!!! ;)

I have no idea if dogs can digest cooked pork, beef or broccoli - but I imagine it is of far less nutritional value once it is cooked ;)
My two eat raw broccoli - I don't know what happens to it if they don't digest it, cos (unlike carrot) it doesn't emerge from "the other end" :shades:

Broccoli is difficult to digest as with all veg. It needs to be finely chopped to aid max absorption.
Pork and beef are not usual meats that a "wild dog" would eat I think is what they mean to say so their natural diet would be based around chickens, rabbits, maybe sheep and the likes but unless a pig or cow was dead it would be unlikely that a dog would be able to hunt it down. The meats can be digested however but they don't provide the best source of protein.

It's like lettuce for Guinea Pigs - it takes so much energy to digest that it makes them sleepy.
I understood that Broccoli has the same effect for dogs. Doesn't harm them but uses up a tremendous amount of energy.

I thought that there was some kind of opiate in lettuce and that was why Peter Rabbit got caught by Mr McGregor!!!!

Yeah but being DB that is not how it was told at all. MM actually told the woman that by giving her dogs broccolli, pork and beef that she was poisoning them!
I often watch DB but only because I live in the village it is filmed in and so I watch hoping to catch a glimpse of people I know when they go into the town etc. This week, our dog groomer was the lovely lady that groomed the english sheepdog.

Someone posted on here that broccoli contains a chemical that can harm dogs (not sure but think it might have been kidney damage) - will try to find out. I stopped using broccoli in Paddy's fruit and veg mix for his BARF meals as a result.....
