Cadbury has over the last few days lost appetite and seems very depressed and we have booked a vets appointment for tomorrow. But tonight he has started trembling uncontrollably and seems very lethargic. I tried to get him to eat but his legs would hardly hold him and kept splaying out to the sides.
He has had all his jabs, not eaten anything he shouldn't of and nothing has changed at home recently.
Does anyone have any advice I'm so worried and wonder if I should wait till morning to get to the vet.

I'd give the vet a ring now, sounds like he needs to be seen ASAP.

Hope everything is ok, only time Ben was like this was a reaction to a worming tablet, it frightened the life out of me. Has Cadbury had anything like that today?

will keep trying the Vet but constantly engaged at the mo.
He has had nothing unusual to eat or drink today and no worming or flea treatments in the last few weeks.

I agree - get on the phone to the vets now and get him seen. Have you had a look at his gums ? Are they a bit pale ??

Please keep trying the vets as there will be an emergancy service not necessarily at yor normal practice. hope he recoveres well :luv:

Hoping that you've found the emergency vets, is Cadbury dehydrated? (Test by gently pinching the skin, it should spring back into shape, if it stays pinched then it indicates dehydration).
Is there any chance that Cadbury could have eaten a foreign object such as a sock or part of a tennis ball? If so, then you need to see the vet asap.
We're sending lots of hugs from Carlisle and hoping that Cadbury recovers soon. :blink:

Thank you all for your thoughts for Cadbury and would ask you all to pray hard, he is at the vets having tests and is on a drip. The vet doesn't know what's wrong but says its neurological, could be an infection or something inherited.
Our first cocker Bracken had to be put down, two weeks after we had him home, due to a serious heart defect, I cried for days, my son has a serious heart condition too and it felt so unfair that his pup should be so cruely taken from him.
Cadbury is such a huge part of our lives and still little more than a pup himself, we could not bear to go through that again but the vet has told us not to get our hopes up.

So sorry Cadbury is so very poorly :'(
My Rosie 17 months was very ill last month with a virus, she was lifeless and wouldn't eat, but had diawotsits too. She was given antibiotics and recovered over a few days.
I really feel for u as I know how scared I was. :'(

Just read your post - glad Cadbury better. Think we will be heading to vets sooner rather than later! See my post "dog needs to vomit". Wee blighter definately got a glove in his stomach - and is giving it it up for nothing! Been there 10 days now! >:( >:(

Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers with so many people rooting for him I feel he must get better. He, like all this wonderful breed, does all that he can to please.
Unfortunately there is as yet no change, he's on antibiotics and the vet says he has slept most of the day.
Just come back from seeing him and he did open his eyes and try to wag his tail but couldn't stand, its so horrible seeing him like this and its hit so quickly.
He is beautiful, loving with the softest heart I have ever met in any dog and I worry about how he will cope being parted from us as he has never spent a night away.
Thanks for all your messages, it has really helped to feel so many people are on his side and I'll post an update once we have any further news.

The vet has no idea but thinks it is likely to be something neurological and says he's not seen anything quite like it and wants us to be aware that he considers Cadbury to be very poorly???

He already has his favourite teddy but something that smells of me is a great idea, it will make me feel better at the very least!!! I'll get on to this now. The vets only 10 mins down the road so I'll see if I can arrange to pop something ASAP. Thanks for the idea.

Try to get an idea of what your vet is thinking re treatment as well if you can. When any of mine have been quite poorly I've written them a list of questions as well to ask (vet nurse suggested this when Ollie was ill as I was quite emotional at the time and was in danger of not getting out what I wanted without crying so while I visited Olls she went and gave him my list and he came over to see me after he'd looked through it --- its was also useful as we then came up with a plan together, that also had if 'x' didn't work then he was to be referred).
I will always ask if they are also consulting with any specialists as well --- my vets in the past have sometimes done this anyway from day 1 (by phone, then in a couple of cases the specialist has requested to see my cat/dog) --- as good as they are they're like GPs really (some obviously have different specialisms/interests)

I've only just read this - we're sending as many healing thoughts to your special boy as we can - so hope that your vet can come up with some answers. Is he thinking of referring Cadbury to a specialist?
Please don't worry about him fretting for you - when they're poorly I think they shut down emotionally and I know when Jarv was on a drip for a couple of days all he did was sleep and recover and I don't think he'd have known if we were there or not.

I agree as when Ollie bacame ill he saw the locum (who's very good as we see him whne my vet is on holiday) then he went to a large practice emergency centre over the weekend then back to my vets and my vet was back off his hols then so I saw a huge difference --- which is why when my own vet came vet we agreed to do a plan of action

No news I'm afraid other than he is being referred to a neuroligist next week as he is no better and they still have no ideas as to what is causing the problem.

Have they done toxicology screening? A lot of poisons can result in neuro symptoms and that would be my first thought even though I'm not a vet.

So sorry you are all going through this please give Cadbury a gentle squidge from us. I so feel for you we were exactly in the same position as you this time last year with Jasper although his was Auto Immune mediated not Neurological. Don't be afraid to push for a second opinion from a veterinary hospital. The local vets (mine was fantastic) are great but sometimes if it is something unusual they may never have seen it before whereas the vet hospitals have usually treated it before. When I think how desperately ill Jasper was and the problems with meds I really thought we would lose him, but he is still here so never lose hope and never give up on the fur baby they astound even the medics. Thinking of you.

Hi all
Firstly a heart felt thank you to all for your posts.
We still aren't 100% sure but the vet is fairly certain he has meningitis and tests taken today (spinal tap etc.)should confirm.
He has been on antibiotics for three days now and today did seem a little brighter, taking some food from my hand and standing when I came to see him, the vet wasn't sure he would last the weekend and today feels he has turned a corner so was prepared to mention that scary word to me.
Up till now he didn't want to panic me further by mentioning his suspicions.
He is by no means out of the woods but is definitely surprising everyone by making moves in the right direction.
Keep fighting my brave wonderful boy and thank you all as I'm sure everyone's positive thoughts have helped him get this far.

There is such a special group of people in COL and think we should have an annual meet up, which would give me a chance to thank you all personally.

Oh poor Cadbury.....If its any help to you a friends Goldie pup was diagnosied with menigitis when he was 9mths old when i was at the vets, TBH all i can remember is that he didn't want to walk and couldn't pick up his head....BUT.....he is now coming up for 5yrs and a Show Champion!! and totally as fit as a fiddle......Fingers crossed lots of love from me and mine xXx

We still aren't 100% sure but the vet is fairly certain he has meningitis and tests taken today (spinal tap etc.)should confirm.
Goodness me I did not know that dogs could get it either.....glad he is taking small steps to recovery and it is not long before he is well once more. Keep improving little man :luv:

A bedlington terrier near us has had meningitis and was very poorly but has recovered almost completely. The only problem he has been left with is to do with his mouth in that he can't always hold his ball and drops it. Obviously, the owner is not at all bothered with this, she is just so glad Monty is better. Other than the mouth problem you would never know he had been poorly.
I am so pleased that Cadbury is a bit better and have all fingers and paws crossed here that he does as well as Monty. I am sure he will.
The specialist that Monty saw told his owner that there must have been an unvaccinated dog in the area and although Monty had been fully vaccinated, the unvaccinated dog must have had some form of disease that Monty picked up. He said that if Monty had not been vaccinated then he would have stood no chance.
Come on Cadbury, you keep getting a bit better every day.

Very sad to say he seems worse again today, very week and wobbly plus after the latest test results we still don't know what's wrong with him, the latest round have ruled out meningitis.
Having looked this up on the web, as like everyone else I didn't know dogs got it, I have to say I'm relieved as it seems it can be as devastating in dogs as with our children.
However feel we are back at square one as we still don't know what's up. He has seen a neurologist today and had further tests but the neurologist was as stumped as everyone else.
I just feel that the longer it takes to get a diagnosis the weaker he becomes and the more scared I get that he won't make it.
They are talking of doing a muscle biopsy next?

Oh no sorry to hear that the news is not better today - I suppose the only positive is that if something has been ruled out then at least they can search for the real cause of the problems and not be sidetracked. I am so sorry that this is just going on and on. I was rather pleased that although meningitis is awful, at least it was a diagnosis. This not knowing is much more worrying.
Have they thought of doing brain scans or anything? (I hope you are insured!)

I think we all really want to know what's happening to little Cadbury.
I am tempted to PM to ask her to let us know but don't want to overwhelm her or distress her. So I thought I would just ask first; has anyone else sent a PM asking for an update? Perhaps we could organise for just one or two of us to do so.
I really am quite fearful just now. Wouldn't it be great though if they have just lost internet connection for a few days.

Never thought they could have just lost the internet for a while. That happens doesn't it? Let's hope it is either that or she is too busy cuddling /tending to Cadbury to have time to log on........

Annette thats a really good idea, I think most of us wanted to pm her out of worry but don't know her well enough. I hope everything is ok and its just an internet blip, mine went down last year 3 times. Have kept logged on since Saturday hoping and praying for some good news as i think most of us on here have. Even though we don't know Cadbury we can all relate to the worry and fear as we all love our own four legged friends. Hoping and praying Cadbury is well.

There's a user called Cadbury, and one called cadburysmum.
I got confused ph34r the one posting about her son's snowboarding holiday doesn't have the poorly Cadbury.

She obviously wouldn't get pms unless she came on-line, and if she comes on line I think she would be feeling strong enough to answer replies to her thread as well. In mho....she is either having pc problems or is really having a hard time to the extent that she can't log on just now. I don't want to undermine everyone's concern for her...I feel exactly the same way...but I think we just have to wait now.

My PMs are forwarded to my email address, I think she knows we all care, so perhaps needs to deal with Cadbury's illness in her own way.

You can turned off the PM's being sent to your email address - so Cadburysmum may have - so you can't assume that they will be sent to her email address (sorry not what you wanted to hear but thought I'd better say)

Cadburysmum does have her PM settings set to notify her by email when she gets a PM. I know everyone is very worried but I think it best that we close this thread for now as it's getting very long with people asking for news. When Cadburysmum is able to log on again and update us, she can start a new thread or ask any of the Mods to unlock this one.
