Title: Any experts out there on Dog colourings? Updated
Post by: muckypups on March 20, 2009, 01:38:25 PM
Buddy was sold to me as a Red Roan. The rest of the litter were Blue Roans. Im not sure how the colouring works. Buddy seemed to be solid when he got home apart from his kissing spot but now has developed white patches on chest and nose and feet whilst rest of him especially ears are going darker.

Ive had people tell me hes a golden and probably a mis match so why would breeder say he was a red roan. Not that it really matters of course as Buddy is a darling, but its been bugging me  ;)  & also im going to a local dog show in April so dont want to look as if i dont know what my own dogs colour is iyswim  ph34r

No he's not a red roan (orange roan would be the term most UK breeders would use for a roan of this colouring anyway). He's a golden with some white/roan markings. For the purpose of the show ring, he would be called a mismarked golden but it makes no odds to a pet Cocker :D Don't let this put you off the fun shows (Companion shows) - it would only be at the formal shows, that his markings might be an issue for some judges.

You can also re re register the colour as he gets older, and correct it if need be. The Kennel club do allow this.

Thanks Guys. I have a mismarked. Bless  :luv:

I wasnt going to show him really but the local pet dog shows look fun especially the obedience bits, so i may enter when hes a bit older and obedient  ;)

Today some one said to me

Oh what a lovely lemon and white cocker  >:D I didnt have the energy to even say anything  after walking round cotswold country park all day :005:

His nose and chest has gone all freckly, but honestly hes way too dark for a lemon, isnt he ?  :005:

I would say he is!!

I agree with you and think he is a mis marked solid gold, just like my little man!! ;)

It's sometimes easier to smile and say yes instead of going into explanantions with people!! :005:

He is lovely and you should enjoy him whatever his colour!! I know you do anyway! :luv: :luv:
