Title: Ear Infection
Post by: Kev on June 10, 2009, 08:41:18 AM
Our cocker spaniel has been itching his ear a lot lately and shaking his head a lot especially last night when he was up most of the night. We regularly clean and brush his ears and have been using ear drops but it doesn't seem to be having any affect.

Will the vets give him a course of antibiaotics to help it?

Are the ear drops from the vet

I found with one of mine the ear solutions just made his ears wet all the time and so he was getting fungal type infections - one ear still has problems but I now regularly use thornitts rather than the solutions

No the ear drops where from the local pet shop?

With him being up most of the night I'm going to take him to the vet to get them checked out.

I've just been reading about thornitts does it really work well to clear up ear infections?

The ear drops from the pet shop won't do any good if he's got an infection (which it sounds like he does) you'll need to take him to the vet asap as ear infections can get quite nasty. My rescue Cocker Tilly has suffered with recurrent ear infections since I've had her and the only thing that clears them up is a course of Canaural from the vet. I do use Thornits and it's good for keeping their ears clean but she still gets the infections fairly regularly.

My first cocker Mollydog used to have recurrent ear infections and we used Canaural from the vets to clear it.  However, with Carla I use Thornits about once a month and her ears have been fine, but vets don't sanction the use of it - proberly 'cos it does them out of income, having said that my vets are great.  Love to you Heather xxx
