Hiya
I want to add this to Ollie's normal kibble food. How much can I give? How do I give it to him? I understand it's frozen, do you have to cook it? Any cons to it?

I feed Millie the natures menu frozen nuggets of raw food and they do a tripe one. You can also get blocks of frozen tripe from Pets at Home, I just let it defrost and then feed it raw. Stinks though!
ETA you shouldn't mix dry food with raw as it can give them an upset stomach ;).

I usually feed fresh raw tripe but probably the easiest way to do it is to buy the frozen stuff and just defrost what you need. How much you give him depends on his weight - there should be a guide on the side of the packs you get in PAH. I would feed it as a meal on its own, as Sarah said don't mix it with dry food. You don't have to cook it, just let it defrost. The only real con (for you!) is the smell although the frozen stuff isn't too bad.

I would do it the other way round - Tripe in the evening rather than the morning.
Kibble swells in the tummy and they're not burning any energy so we found that if we fed raw at night Jarv was hungry in the mornings and ate his kibble happily ;)

I understand tripe to be good for putting on weight (I saw your other post said he has lost some) so I assume that's why you're doing it but obviously that can be a con if he doesn't need to.
Is that why you want to give him it?

It's not just good for putting on weight, it's a really healthy raw food for them - Jarvis doesn't need to put on weight but I will still feed him tripe sometimes as he loves it and it's really good for him (and his poo...although this differs from dog to dog...is fantastic on it :lol2: )

Well, we wanted to add to kibble really to get him eating more kibble, but obviously can't do it with this. I'd like him to add a little more weight on really.

Found the frozen minced tripe to be much easier to use than the frozen blocks of tripe. Easier to measure out the amount you want for each day, as you can just pour it out into a bowl and leave to defrost. Still smelly though >:(

Oh, I realise this, that the weight thing isn't the only reason to feed it, I was just going to suggest that if there was no obvious reason for tripe, it was just in order to add variety, that there are tons of different frozen raw meats available, (some less stinky :005: ) and you could experiment with what he may like.
If you want him to eat more kibble you could try using kibble as training treats throughout the day on top of his main meal, serve it wetter/drier, (the opposite to how he has it now) add a little gravy that you can buy. Does he eat once or twice a day?

He's supposed to eat twice a day, but sometimes he doesn't have the second meal. Would anyone be able to inform me on the different raw meats that he could have?

he could have chicken wings, raw lambs breast, the raw minces you can buy in pet stores (like tripe and beef, or rabbit, or lamb etc), raw pork ribs, rabbit, turkey...you can do raw fish too but in our case that's not a popular choice ::) Also of course, offal such as heart, kidney, liver....
Jarv also has a meal of a tin of sardines in tomato sauce once a week - you could try pilchards too.
TBH the smelliness of tripe last's nano-seconds as it will be scoffed rapidly :lol2: and it's a really good raw food so don't let the smell put you off.
If you are going to feed kibble once a day then I wouldn't be too worried about alternating his evening meal with a few things - we usually do a meal of lambs breast or tripe or beef & tripe mince or sardines - whatever we have in. Sometimes he'll have chicken wings a few nights on the trot. He's not keen on raw offal and I figure that he gets most other vitamins/minerals he needs in his good quality kibble meal ;)

Raw tripe is evil, but it only lasts a second in my house. Its a amazes me the speed it goes down. Lots of lip licking goes on after, but don't as for a kiss :005:

I sometimes give my lot a whole tripe each, fresh from the sheep. pretty disgusting but they really have to make good use of their jaws and teeth. its amazing how fast they can demolish it. :005: then gently sore all afternoon! sleeping it off.
