Title: Natural Treatment for Fleas
Post by: Miss Poohs on June 28, 2009, 09:20:32 AM: Vahri and Rufters are treated monthly with the Frontline Combo preparation, but recently I've noticed that it doesn't seem to be keeping the fleas at bay the way it used to.

They are usually flea free for about 2 weeks then by the 3rd week they are scratching and itchin' again.

The other thing being I'm not happy having my babies pumped full of drugs just to treat the fleas, is there a more natural approach.

I have heard of people putting garlic in the food, but I'm not sure how much, how often or if its effective.

1 +1/4 cup of Cottage Cheese
Vitamin E 1001 U
1/4 teaspoon of Garlic Powder
1 tbsp Bacon Grease

Mix all the ingredients and to food daily.

Apparently, not only will it keep the fleas away, dogs will love the way its tastes.

I'm not an expert but mine only seem to have got fleas when they've mixed with other dogs/cats or have snuffled something dead with fleas. Perhaps if you could also identify a source that is treatable/avoidable you would be able to treat less. :huh: :huh:

Post by: Ali R on July 02, 2009, 02:01:56 AM: I use brewers yeast mixed in with their dinner, they love it and we hardly ever get fleas. I use about a teaspoon a day, one of mine is allergic to garlic which is quite common. I think larger dogs are fine with garlic, including cockers, but for people with smaller breeds they can be over dosed quite easily. Has the same effect as chocolate, lots get away with eating a small amount but one or two react badly.
