Title: How long did you have to wait to get your pup/older dog?
Post by: Sprinkles on July 01, 2009, 10:44:15 PM
As some of you may or may not know I'm still pupless but hopefully for not much longer!!! Her pups are due 11th July  :D fingers (and everything else) crossed. I found a fantastic local breeder and waited for her girl to come into season etc etc. I started all this "investigation" in Feb of this year so from the beginning to new pups first day with us will be 7 months approx.

I may have been able to do all this quicker (through the correct channels of course!!) but wanted to stay with my local breeder who had also been recommended.

I'm sure I haven't had to wait the longest (but it feels like it everytime a pic of a new pup is posted  >:D) so how long did you have to wait?

I waited 27 years! :o

My childhood dog died when I was 12 and my Mum said we weren't getting another. I finally got my beloved Gari when I was 39 and he was well worth the wait. :luv:

I had to wait 8 years until i worked part time for fred, and then it took a further 4-5 months to find a breeder, then a further few months for fred to be born and old enough....

I empathise, am now working from home and been starting to look for another pup myself and feel like i'm going around in circles trying to find the right combination of pup and breeder.  It is soooo worth the wait though x  :-*

Six years for me - I had to wait until I got a job which allowed me to work flexi and take regular lunch breaks  ;)

OOOH Jo, its getting close now isn't it ;) you must be sooo excited. We went local too but we only had to wait 3 months until she was home with us and that seemed like an eternity :005:

I spent 2 years finding the right breeder, but Muffin was definitely worth the wait. :D

I'm a bit like Fiona, and had been waiting years since having my last dog.
Definately worth the wait tho!
I look forward to seeing that first pic of your new pup on the puppy intro board Jo!
Not long now.  ;)

It seems like my whole life....I've been waiting and anticipating having my own dog since I was about 5 or 6.....but seriously since I was 19.  Then I spent the last year and a half more seriously researching breeds....went wrong with a split personality rescue dog who attacked my family, and nearly lost all chances of ever having a dog....I began seeking and contacting cocker breeders in early Feb. this year, and our pup is due in 6 days.

So about on your timeline really.  And I consider myself lucky, as this breeder was waiting for her bitch to come into heat soon when I found her, and some had wait lists over a year long already.  There are also only 6 or 7 cocker breeders in my province (which is something like 3X the size of the UK), and most only breed once at a year at most.  I joke with OH that it would have been faster and easier and a lot cheaper in the short run to have another baby  :005:

it took a couple of years to convince OH that it was the right thing to do - after losing our springer 7 years ago he said "no more" - then a few months to find the right breeder and the right dog.

Looking for a second is taking much longer though.

I wish you lots of luck for July 11th

It's been about 11 years for me!!! Finished college 11 years ago and got our own house but at that stage, we were both working full time, so it wasn't possible then. Then along came our daughter, so was at home all the time but had a young baby........then 2 years ago, fell pregnant with twins  ph34r ph34r ............was beginning to think it would never happen, but at the beginning of this year, we decided that now was looking promising! Eldest daughter is about to start school, twins are about to start nursery/preschool. We found a fantastic breeder around January/February time, and fingers crossed, our pup has been "concieved" this week!!!!! Find out for definete in about 3 weeks time!! We're soooooooo excited!!!! It has been forever coming, but hopefully, we're nearly there!!!!!! :luv:

57yrs  ;) a friend at Junior school had not only a Palamino pony but also a golden Cocker ( and no little brothers ) - - I envied her so much and went to her house when even I could.  I was 44when I got my pony, then we got a Springer who was really my husband's  dog, then I adopted my daughter's Staffie then last year by sheer chance when I was searching for a dog NESSR contaced me with a Cocker seeking a quiet new home so my beautful Molly came to live with me.

Have always wanted a dog, but have never been able to because of work.  Then came an opportunity to work from home and a year later I had my first pup, and now I have two.  The only pet we had when I was at home was a cat, who we only had for a few years as she disappeared.  My parents odopted my brothers dog, but I had already left home then, so didn't have any pets until I was about 32.  Now have 3 cats, rabbit and two dogs - would love a horse as well :lol2:

I waited about 2 and a half years after I graduated from uni, we'd always had family dogs and my parents still had the Springers back in NI but obviously I hadn't been able to have a dog of my own while I'd been a student and when I was just starting work and living in shared flats. I had to wait until I had bought my house and was at a stage in my job where I could work from home one day a week and afford a dog walker for the other days. I was 24 when it finally happened and I left NI when I was 18 so around 6 years I guess.
