Hi - has anyone with a puppy had the big canine come through at the side of the baby tooth, so the baby hasn't fallen out? This has happened to Eddie's final upper LHS canine - phoned the vet who said they would take it out when he gets castrated at 6 months - but i said i was hoping not to castrate him, especially at such a young age, so they said he'd have to have it out under sedation (he's already been through this once with his other upper canine which broke and got infected at 3 months) - id really like to avoid him going under again - any tips or advice on how to get it to fall out naturally? (my dad suggested tying string round and slamming the door, which he apparently did to us as kids!!!! i've obviously blocked that trauma out ph34r) - NB I won't be trying that! :lol:

Isla had this with both of her upper canines, fortunately they both came out naturally in the end! I doubt there is anything you can do to persuade it out quicker though! :huh:

Yep I think Katie was the same, seemed like it was gonna stay there for ever, then ond day I looked and it was not there anymore. How about something chewy to help persuade it - i won't suggest toffees tho :lol2:

My first cocker Groove had the same thing but it eventually came out

Thanks guys - I don't get vets - already talking about castration in a fortnight - he's only 22 weeks and I have no idea if that's what we want to do yet - and if not, another op under aneasthetic - it's a licence to print money it sometimes seems! I'll keep an eye on it and hope it falls out on it's own x

Dont let them push you into having him castrated unless it is what you want , i think theres good and bad points to both sides of getting him done and not. Dennis is now nearly 8 months old and i still havnt decided on what i want to do , if i dont have any problems to suggest otherwise i will probably keep him entire. Hopefully his tooth will come out on its own :D

This didn't actually happen to Bronte, but my boys wanted to keep a souvenir of her baby teeth so when they were falling out I had to watch very carefully for loose teeth. When I noticed a loose one I would play tug with her quite roughly (as she liked it that way away) and the tooth would just drop out with an extra bit of help.

Don't be pushed into having him castrated, especially so young, when he's still developing. At my vet surgery they don't like to castrate until the dog has had time to mature physically, so at least 15 months old for a medium sized dog like a Cocker.
William was castrated at 15 months because he had an undescended testicle that needed to be removed. Otherwise I wouldn't have had him castrated. Apart from anything else it's made his coat really difficult to manage.
Before William I had 2 male Cockers at the same time, Josh and Sam. Josh was castrated when he developed prostate problems when he was about 8 and Sam was never castrated. They got on well with each other and were fine with other dogs and bitches.

Hopefully it will fall out by itself like others have said ;) I am still waiting for Belles to fall out she has lost the rest of her baby teeth and the area of gum around her fangs is quite swollen so I am hoping they fall out soon >:( Don't be rushed into castration - he is a baby still :luv:. It's gone!! It was there an hour ago when I checked - I was just grooming his ear and he mouthed my hand as usual and left a little blood so I looked again and it's gone - so pleased as no vet trip required now fingers crossed - and no pushing for neutering! :lol: :luv:
