Hi all.
My family and I are looking to rehome a cocker.
Would prefer a worker but will look at any to be honest.
Currently have a 2 1/2 year old chocolate cocker from working stock although he is a family dog and doesnt work. Plenty of countryside walks and all the love in the world.
Had our boy from 9 weeks old so very used to the good the bad and the stubborn, we also have 2 kids aged 5 and 8 who both adore dogs and know how to behave around them.
Any home visit is more than welcome as is a walk out with us to see our normal routine.
In advance
Many thanks

Good luck with your search. And welcome to CoL. I was looking for a second, but have decided to focus on my 3/4 working cocker's little problem with recall when hunting first.
-
What part of the country are you in J? How far will you travel?
Sounds like you could offer a lovely home :luv:
-
Hi there, I live in Kendal, Cumbria. Within 10 minutes I can be completely off the beaten track where to dog can run free andyou need not worry about them chasing livestock, no worries with traffic and as much water and mud as a spaniel can handle :005: :005:
It`s a bloody marvelous place to be.
As for travelling, 4-5 hour round trip? To be honest, I travel just about anywhere for the right dog :003:

I assume you have seen Ollie on the Rescue Board? ;)

;) Hi and welcome to col.

Have you tried the working cocker representatives (details are on this forum) I have re-homed 2 workers through Pat Rhodes

Hi Jan, my train of though was to try and find a 2nd a similar age, if not slightlt younger than Bayliss. My reasoning for that is purely because I have had him since he was 9 weeks old and as far as he is concerned this is his house, Would an older dog respect that in a doggy fashion or would an older dog fit in OK? :dunno:
Opinions and advice is more than welcomed on that one.
Wendy, I hadn't to be honest, I am still getting to grips with the forum and it`s many different sections but I will make a point of searching through to make contact. Many thanks

Brie is my youngest dog and is definitely the one that rules the others :005:
I dont think its age that matters and you can not really predict how they will sort themselves out. You may have to accept that any dogs you get could be higher in the pecking order than your original dog.

:luv: Just seen Sebastion on NESSR site

I agree with this - whether you get a puppy, a dog of the same age or older dog there's no guarantee that Bayliss will be 'top dog', it's something that they sort out amongst themselves. Dogs don't go by the idea of who was there first, they have no concept of that kind of thing.
-
I think with mine they just cant be bothered with Brie sulking or annoying them so they let her get away with whatever she wants :005:
She really is their pesky, annoying, spoilt little sis :luv:
-
Ah well that widens the goalposts somewhat for us then, cheers.
Sebastian looks fantastic doesn't he, I`m waiting to hear more about him from one of the organisers of NESSR. I bet there are a few asking the same questions as me on him.

Since Ruby has lost her sight Wilf has really now become topdog and Roobs is happy with that

Yep - dogs sort out the pack order and it's our job to support whatever they end up with! We now have 4 (how.......?!) and our original Springer is at the bottom of the pack and always has been 'under' any dog we have ever brought in to the house. We felt sorry for him at the beginning when we were much less experienced and tried to 'up' his position but this just caused him grief through our own lack of understanding - luckily that was many years ago and harmony now reigns in our household.
Wishing you much luck with finding the right dog.

Hello!
If you are still looking for a soul mate - I am fostering the lovely Abbey for Many Tears. (she is on the rescue board page on here) She is a 5 year old working cocker - sweet little girl. She is good with my children who are all under 4. She can knock them over now + again when wanting to say hello but that is getting better now!
We are in Fife in Scotland.

good for you J, I wish I was in a position to rescue. There are so many dogs in need on the board at the moment its heartbreaking.
Hope you find a suitable rescue soon.
-
I think we may have found a little boy at a local rescue centre,, a black and tan 3 year old worker, found as a stray who might have got lost.
Will keep you all posted
Cheers :D

awww if he has been lost I hope he's reunited with his owners :-\ (although that would be disappointing for you)

:'( :'( :'(
Little boy was re homed with his parents (great for them though)
Seemily while he was out for a walk with his owner and wife there was a shoot going on in the distance and he was off wanting to retrieve, the selective hearing kicked in and he was off. One of the guys on the shoot kept him in the back of his pick up expecting the owners to come and find him but they never did. Into care, 1 advert in the local papers soon had him home.
Guess they have a fantastic tale to share in the bad dog section, but may think twice about walking him in fairly close proximity to a shoot.

Well this is a turn up for the books
My GLW has somehow managed to find a 10 week old LW springer bitch for sale 10 minutes away from our house!!! :shades:
She was the one who said no puppies, she was the one who said she didn't want a springer, and she was the one who made to phone call LOL :005:
The kids are all excited, they have decided a name IF we get her and we`re off to look at her later on today.
No doubt my pocket will become somewhat lighter by the end of the day and the training manuals will have to be dug out ;)
Will keep you informed!

Not be a stick in the mud but I would think carefully before buying a pup if you discounted one before. It can be frustrating waiting to rescue/rehome an older dog and so many people do go and buy a puppy only to struggle with them. We've had 3 pups come into rescue this year because new owners couldnt cope (as well as others who couldnt be sold or are apparently not able to be housetrained >:( Also please do consider how you will manage with an unspayed dog and entire male in the same house.
-
We hadn't discounted a pup in the past, we had just just thought that re homing would help to give something back.
Anyhoo, the springer we saw was fantastic and mum and dad were great, both really happy dogs but unfortunatly the pups aren't registered because mum wasn't from birth, to top it the owner wanted big money for them too so we declined to bring one home.
That said, my wife and 2 kids have now decided that we are buying a pup, fantastic for me cause I get to do all the hard work and reap all the rewards again, but it also means that first thing in the morning we have a nice 150 mile drive out to look at one in Doncaster.
It took hours on the phone to find any that fit the bill, but fingers crossed we'll be able to get something sorted out in the near future.

how about the little 3 legged (to be) chap on the rescue board, Choccy? :luv: He's only 4 months old :'(
-
OOh yes choccy is a right little cutie, looking for lots of love and TLC. totally adorable wee pup. :luv:
