Title: Kennel cough inoculation
Post by: SkyeSue on September 12, 2009, 09:02:59 PM
Chloe had hers yesterday as she will have to go to the kennels for a weekend at end of the month (I'm dreading it, but thats another story  :'() Vet warned me that she might have a bit of a cough, which she has had, but didn't tell me that she'd be completely off her food, be sick (twice this morning) and really she's just lazed about all day and slept. I'm not overly worried, but just wondered how other dogs had reacted to this? Chloe is normally on the go all the time, and to see her like this is a bit disconcerting  :o :-\

Both of ours have had it and you wouldn't have known they had been to have it done. Now that doesn't help put your mind at rest does it! Sorry, maybe someone else will have had experience with side effects.

Hope she's back to her normal self soon

I've never known any dogs to have a reaction to it, but I suppose it's not impossible. But, do you think she could have picked up a bug, perhaps at the vets or from a dog outside? :P

Yeah, I suppose its possible. It was like rush hour at the vets when I took her in yesterday, never seen so many people and dogs in there before. Anyway, she has "managed" to eat a bone, and "managed" a tiny walk, so I'm not too worried  :shades: ;) I wonder if her sleepiness can be attributed to her night out partying last night  :lol2:

Right, she's definitely gone weird....she's in her bed! Now that might not seem strange to most folk, but Chloe doesn't do beds (except mine) and she's all huddled up in it  ;) Maybe I should be clicking and treating her for being such a good girl  :005: :005:

As long as she's drinking (and I mean water!) I wouldn't be too worried. I hope she feels better in the morning. :luv:

Thanks Fiona, yeah, she's drinking ok...I'm sure she'll live  :shades: :005: I'm just hopeless when the slightest thing happens to her, I always get in a state, just through lack of experience I guess  ph34r :005: Anyway, we're both off to bed for an early night now  ;)

Sorry to hear about poor Chloe.  Monty had a reaction to his kennel cough vaccination as well, he developed a dreadful hacking cough (sounded like a heavy smoker!!) and he was sick a couple of times too.  I gave him a teaspoon on Manuka honey daily and that seemed to help (plus he loved it).  One of Monty's brothers had a very bad reaction to the KC vaccine and had to spend 10 days in the vets so we got off lightly.

Hope Chloe feels better soon.

Good grief, how awful...just goes to show how some dogs can react badly to  medication and vacines  that most other dogs can tolerate.
Thankfully Chloe is A1 again today, not long back from a 3 hour walk, she's scoffed her tea and is snoozing happily on the sofa  :luv:
