I am getting my pup in 2 weeks, (she'll be 10 weeks then) and I know that her parents have been tested and were ok, but is there any point in me doing Inca too or would her Parents results be ok to go by? I'm not thinking about breeding etc, but I was wondering if there is any advantage if I was to get her tested? x

I know her mum has been dna tested, for both PRA and FN and they came back clear, and I know that her dad has been optigen tested but not sure if he's been FN tested. I am gonna get her tested anyway as it's for my own peace of mind, and thinking about it, it does make sense. I will ask my breeder to check if the dad has been tested for FN, as I know even if her mum's clear, Inca could still be a carrier if either he is a carrier or affected isn't it?
Oh and in regards to eye tests anyway, with the BVA scheme, does that test for both gpra and cpra, just I am getting a bit confused that's all! x

If Mum is tested clear on the Optigen PRA & Antagene FN, then your puppy will not go on to have either PRA or FN. It is poss that she could be a carrier if the dad carries or is FN or PRA affected, although i would have thought that a breeder would not use a affected dog.
There doesn't seem any point in having your puppy tested because she will not be affected and you are not planning to breed :blink:
Have you seen copies of the test certificates? If not make sure you ask for copies. ;)

My breeder is giving me copies of the mum's certificates when we pick her up and I have asked her to get copies of the dad's too. Thanks for the advice, ooh I am getting rather excited now.........(even more than before!!! 12 sleeps to go!) x

CPRA is congenital (present from birth) PRA and GPRA is generalised PRA (can start anytime in life)
Sorry Emily but that's not quite right - CPRA is not congenital (present at birth) and is usually not detected until later in life (just like GPRA). CPRA stands for Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy but the preferred name these days is Retinal Pigment Epithelial Dystrophy or RPED (there's a brief explanation about it on the Health page of the main CockersOnline site HERE (http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=66)) It gets a bit confusing with all these names and initials doesn't it :D
