Title: Made a rod for my own back
Post by: bracken on November 12, 2009, 08:27:13 PM
My dogs always expect to go out in all weathers for there long work up the hills, if it is really hammering down like today I hate it and try hard not to go but they go on and on  :-\ until I normally give in

Do your cocker's hassle you to go out in all weather ? Today must be the first day I have missed this year and boy do I know it  :005:

My two go out hell or high water and because of this they expect it  >:D
I do feel guilty if we have a day when they don't go out but at the end of the day it happens that few and far between I don't worry about it. However, they pester me so much I usually wish I had forced myself to go in the first place and I really pay for it the next day  :005:

I don't mind going out in bad weather but Brodie does :005:. You should see her face if she has to do as much as step through a puddle ::). Once she actually gets wet she tends to be fine.

Honey doesn't like the rain... we generally try and get her out whatever the weather, but occassionally she takes one look at the rain and runs back inside!  :005:

you lucky beggars  :005: I so wish my two hated the rain sometimes. Especially after being soaked through to my knickers this afternoon  :005:  :005:

Dylan not keen on going out in the rain, he usually walks round puddles.   Jessie loves the rain, muddy puddles barks and runs round like a mad thing :luv:

They always want to go out, no matter how horrible the weather is.   I don't think they have missed one day without going out this year, and tbh i feel they definetly do need to go out otherwise they seem to get quite norty and very boisterous indoors.  :P  I just want to keep them happy  :luv: or perhaps i am just a big softy or mug  :-\

The odd thing about this though is if it is raining they will not go out in the garden >:(

Strangely enough my dogs will walk in any weather but hate going out side for a wee if there is a spot of rain.  :005:

Go out in the wet stuff, never!!!!! not me I don't mind its them >:(  Light drizzle is fine they will go then but heavy rain its like torture for Jasmine she has her head so low to the floor its like she will trip over it and she looks up at me with the sad eyes like its hell on earth. I feel guilty if I do take them  :005:
We have a playtime at home instead. Tonight we have played fetch and had a fun time they are both tired and asleep now.
They wont go out for a toilet break in the rain either they hold it until they really really have to go then its a quick squat on the patio and into the kennel to shelter.
What I don't understand is they will splash in puddles and swim and thats not a problem so why does the rain bother them so much.

William doesn't like going out in heavy rain and just plods along looking miserable. Even going out in the garden for a pee is a major work up for him if it's wet outside. He's been known to hold on for up to 12 hours, then he pees for about a minute  :005:

Mine have missed out on a couple of walks this week because I've had a bad cold and cough. William has been fine, but Louis is practically bouncing off the walls by the evening.

My two hate the rain, although they will walk in it just not go out to the loo ::) I don't mind walking in it at all but at the moment with a baby in a buggy or back pack logistically, it's SUCH hard work and sometimes I just can't find the energy for it all.. the dogs aren't bothered so who am I to force them???? ph34r ph34r ph34r I think it's about balance though and on balance they have a great life, they're rarely alone and when we are out walks are all off lead in interesting places full of hunting... and they get training everyday, games most days wrestle each other etc etc....

Mine harass me to go out, well Tia does anyway, and Duggie acts up, so I always end up taking them out no matter what the weather or how ill I'm feeling, on those days it's just the local park, but it's still a good walk with plenty of bushes, trees and ponds. :D Gari always harassed me too, he loved going out in any weather. :luv:

It takes me ages to get ready for a walk in the rain though, with all my waterproofs, etc, even longer when it's freezing, as the thermals have to be squeezed on too, I end up twice the size I normally am! :lol2:

Mine are very good, we tend to go at different times of the day so there is no set routine, which means they're never sure whether we're all going out or just me.  Have to admit I'm a fair weather walker so tend to wait until its stopped raining and weather improves.

My two are out in all weathers - neither mind it, and tbh I don't really mind going out.  Once I'm out I'm fine, it's the getting ready to go out that I hate!  Mine start parading round me at about 8.45 ready for the last walk of the evening, it's scary how accurate they are with the timing!

Chloe hates going in the garden for a pee when it's raining, but doesn't mind going for  a walk. Having said that, if it's blowing a hooley and raining horizontallly, we don't go out and she doesn't seem to mind in the slightest. She's never pestered me to go out, but she does sometimes pester me for attention in the evenings, if she thinks I've been on the lap-top too long, or if we've got visitors and I'm talking too much  :005:

Coco isn't keen on the rain so is quite happy to forego her walk if it is piddling down  :luv:  In fact if it is raining when I go to let her out of the car, she usually refuses and I have to lift her out  ::) :005:

Freya my older cocker is not too bad.....she is content to walk to the village on pavements, if it is too wet to go to the moors.............but, the boys are quite different.  They really sulk, and whine.  They just love being free to run, and don't really like the restriction of their leads.  I try to tell them that I hate the rain, and wouldn't they rather have a nice short walk and then a treat for being good, quiet boys.................but, it doesn't work.  I usually end up putting on the wellies, and coming back muddy, saturated, and cold...............then....it's my turn to sulk. :embarassed:

I forgot to add that even though Duggie and Tia love to go out for a good off lead walk in all weathers, they won't go out in to the garden for a pee in the rain, they take one look out of the door and go back inside! :P

Exactly the same thing here.......they will venture out when they can have their usual fun, but in the garden it's a no no........I have to stand out there for ages until they give in.  :005:

Isn't that funny.  :shades:  :005: Mine are exactly the same. They would go out for a walk come hell or high water, but the garden is a different matter. They will take one look and say no not today mum and actually hide and sit on the sofa refusing to move. There funny creatures Cockers.  :shades:  :005:

Mine are exactly the same, apparently the rain out the front door is different from the rain out the back  :lol2:

I think its there way of saying "you want me out in this weather, its gonna be for an off lead run"

I think Honey's reaction at dog club yesterday sums it up...

We got there just as the heavens opened... got out to be told that the session was cancelled due to the weather, but we were welcome to use the field for a bit to give her a run... while I was being told this, she was cowering by the gate...  ::)

I let her off the lead and, despite the fact that she knew I had tennis balls in my pocket, she headed off at full speed, pausing briefly for a glance which quite clearly said "Come on, Mum!!!"....  straight back to the car, where she wimpered until I caught her up and let her back inside!!!!  :005:  ::)  Don't think she would have made a good working dog... she refuses to lie down in wet grass, too....  :005:

Betty will go out in all weather and I don't mind as long as I'm well wrapped up. I don't think we've missed a day in the two and a half years we've had her.

Ranger hates the rain as well but LOVES the snow -and as we are in Canada we'll have lots of that from Dec to April - his energy level goes up, he runs, jumps & is full of beans. Rain ,on the other hand, - he drags along  for the briefest possible walk & has to be pushed out into the garden to relieve himself.

Smartie does like to drag behind when it's raining alot. She gives me the "are you serious" look!!

Smartie will wait until she's bursting too!! Most of the time she refuses to go out the door!! Chops on the other hand doesn't seem to even notice the weather!
