Title: Stripping Knife? Which One?
Post by: chickrockguitar on November 13, 2009, 08:26:50 PM
Hey guys,

I'm looking for a Stripping Knife. I've found a few on eBay, but there's diff types, lol. I'm not sure what's best for Cocker Fur?

There's "Fine", "Coarse" and then what seems a Normal one.

Any ideas what's best? Below is the ebay List:

Thanks!

You'd be better off getting a Coat King really as those types of stripping knives are more for coarse coated breeds like Terriers. What parts of the body are you looking to strip ?

Uhm, mostly just the dead fluff on the sides of his belly/back. Does that make sense? A few bits on his legs too.
There's not much as he's a worker. But the bits there are, won't come out with a normal brush or comb.

I use good old finger and thumb I'm afraid. Takes a while, but get a better finish than with a blade. You can get finger cots to help grip the hair or have you tried winding an elastic band round the teeth of a comb.

I'd tried the finger/thumb. No go.
My OB class teacher did it with a hand strip and they came out with ease. But we're not going for a couple of weeks, becasue they're at a few shows. So I cant ask her for a while.

If it's coming out with ease for your teacher then the comb with elastic band should get some out. If you are having trouble have you tried finger cots or just ordinary latex gloves. They just help you to get a grip on the hair.  ;)
