Hello All,
Got a question about Ainslies habit of rubbing at the side of his mouth with his paw. He has done it for a while, when he had loads of trouble with his anal glands we asked the vet and she said that it was probably his teeth or a bit of a reaction to the antibiotics, anyway after the glands were removed we didnt have any other medication for him but he has started doing it again lately. Any ideas what this is? He is 1 next week so I dont think it can be his teeth still and there is nothing stuck on any of them or in his jowls.
Dont think its anything to worry about but I would love to know why he is doing it and what I can do to help him.
Thanks guys,

Hello Ainslie,
My Moo-Moo scratches his mouth on his bed.
I bathe with Hibiscrub every couple of days in the lip fold area to keep it clean.
Incidentally, he has had his anal glands removed as well.....wonder if it is connected?
Just before Christmas he had been 'scooting' along the floor if I wasn't looking and had made under his tail sore. We went to the vets as he had been 'nibbling' his skin further down from his bum-bum as well.
The vet thinks it may be an allergy, to what I don't know until he does the tests. I cannot change his diet as he is prone to struvite crystals so it is a process of elimination. I have started to use a dermatological washing powder (Surcare) for his and the other dogs bedding and touch wood, he hasn't done it much since then.
Hope this helps,
Heather

Hmmmm interesting that they both have had their glands removed and both do this. I may ring the vets and see what they think. I have never really given it a thought before but sometimes he just looks at you as if to say "Scratch it mum!" We do our best to try and itch it for him sometimes but I think we need to get it sorted out.
Thanks for the reply, hope Moo-moo has some improvement with this soon aswell.
