I'm trying not to panic, as pups swallow things all the time, and usually pass them ok, and I'm always reassuring clients at work that their dogs will be fine. But, of course, it is always different when it is your own baby! :P
I was upstairs, and Duggie had brought a red stone in from the garden, and was throwing it around, he then lay on his back with it in his mouth, and it went down his throat before OH could grab it. He is fine just now, and I know to give him things like mashed potato and plain pasta to help it go through his system, and it can take a couple of days to pass, but just wondered what you've done when your dog has swallowed a stone?
The vet wouldn't be able to do anything about it just now unless it becomes stuck, so not sure whether to ring her or not, or just wait. :-\

Just carry on as normal, he'll be fine. I know quite a few dogs who've swallowed dozens of stones and are fine even with them weighing down their stomachs!

I take it it wasn't a huge great rock?! If he seems OK, I'd just wait see if it passes. You'll know if there's something wrong with him............. :luv:

Barney was seriously obsessed with stones and swallowed a few throughout his lifetime - they never caused him any bother. I'm sure it will be the same for Duggie :luv: :luv:

You could give him some liquid parafin (that's what our vet advised us, after we tried the making him sick - below ) - but I would check this with your vet
We had tried to make him sick within 5 min of him eating (this was done at the vets) and we / vets used soda crystals - please note I would not suggest anyone tries these without consultation from your vet
(ooo this is Braan i am on about - cor can't believe it's nearly a year since he left us :'( )

Try not to worry Fiona, easier said than done I know, but as you say, you would confidently reassure clients in this situation...so try and listen to your own advice ;)
Really hope it pops out the other end soon :shades:

The only problem you will have is having to poke around in poo :lol: just to reassure youself its passed through. Had this last week when Bonnie ate a portion of her blanket but it was a worry till I knew it was out

He had some pasta for lunch and I've never seen anything disappear so quickly - it went down faster than the stone did! :o
I'm just waiting to see if it passes, it wasn't huge, just one of those large red chips you get in gardens and driveways, but I imagine it won't be too comfortable coming out. :-\
My friend's dog had to have a large collection of stones removed from his stomach when he was a pup, but this is the first time that Duggie has swallowed one, he usually just plays with them.

Awwwww. Poor Duggie. :luv: I hope it passes through without to much bother. :shades: Avs had an obsession with stones when she was little(er) :shades: We had them all round the edge of our paved area and she used to pick them up, run around with them, throw them in the air and catch them and crunch on them, so we went and got a loud of BIG pebbles. With the best will in the world she wasn't budging them. ;) :005:

What a norty pupster worrying you like this. It isn't as if he doesn't have plenty of things to play with! Trouble is, I bet he doesn't learn from his mistake, especially since he has had pasta!

Hope he is OK, our two love crunching on stones from the garden and I am forever taking stones (and pieces of wall!) out of their mouths.
Hopefully it will pass through without too much trouble. I have found masking tape, wool, twigs and goodness knows what else in Blod's poo-poop. She has also regurgitated two sausage-like clumps full of twigs, leaves and muck through her mouth (second time on Christmas eve) and this is completely down to picking too much stuff off the floor. This has accompanied sickness too so has upset her tummy but 24 hours and lots of plain food later, her tummy rights itself and she is back to normal.
Hope he is OK.

I'm still awaiting the stone, but he was very sick during the night. Vet says to bring him in immediately if he is sick again repeatedly at any point. :-\

Oh no, bless him. Hope he is OK...I am on pins when they aren't quite right in themselves, hope his tum settles down quickly now.

He was sick again this morning, spoke to the other vet I work with, and mentioned how he is often sick, and I think he is intolerant to carrots, she said it sounds as though he does actually have a sensitive tummy, and to try him on the fish & rice burns, rather than the chicken & rice. She also said she may get me to bring him in for x-rays if he is still being sick. :P
I think he ate another stone this morning! ph34r He ran in crunching something and then suddenly stopped, I checked his mouth and there was nothing there. Dogs are such a worry. :-\

I don't know much about it, but if he was blocked up, he wouldn't be pooping would he?

That's true, but the vet said it could be rattling around inside him, and occasionally cause a blockage, and that's why he is sick. :-\
He wasn't sick this morning though, so hopefully the stone has gone, never to return... :D

:020: fingers crossed he's passed it but it was well hidden iykwim :D they certainly know how to make us fret don't they!!!
