Title: Duggie's eyes - UPDATED!
Post by: Rats and Dogs on January 30, 2010, 12:15:39 PM
Duggie's eyes have always had a slight grey/white rim of hair around them, but just recently they have become much more pronounced and OH pointed out the other night that he looked like one of the Black & White Minstrels! ph34r They really do look quite odd, and I've even found myself washing them just in case it was dried gunk, but it's definitely hair. :P He looks like he has been on a sunbed with the goggles on. :-\

Does anyone elses' dogs have this? They don't seem to show up in photos, but I'll try to get a daylight one later.

I've just got one with pink bald rims instead  ph34r

I was just about to say that Duggie's eyes sound similar to Jarv's.

I only noticed Jarvis's baldy rims quite recently and asked Helen about it as I was a bit worried. Seems he's always had them. They are very cute!

I had a closer look just after I logged off earlier, as OH was insisting Duggie's eyelids and underneath are bald, and I think he's right! :o Not totally bald yet, but very sparse, and spreading rapidly. :P

I'm taking Tia to the vet on Monday, so will take Duggie too, and have it checked.

Poor Duggie, OH said he is going to be ugly if it gets any worse! ph34r :'(

I got a couple of pics where you can kind of see what I mean. It makes him look really tired. :-\

I've never noticed it on Jarvis's eyes Helen, do you have a pic?

right....off to buy Duggie some stick on false eyelashes  ;)

Bless him, he could never be ugly...I'd give that OH a kick if I were you  :shades: :005:

Hope you all get on ok at the vets on Monday. Is it just a routine thingy for Tia? Hope she's not got anything wrong, or I missed something

I just just imagine me trying to get false eyelashes on Duggie! :005:

You can see what I mean about his eyes though, can't you?

Tia's fine, don't worry, she just has a bit of an eye infection, and her lip fold pyoderma has flared up again (she gets them both simultaneously), so hoping the vet can give her something to clear it up this time. :D

think for some reason this series of snow ones showed up ol' pink eyes really clearly - this was one of the ones that Annette commented on  ;)

I can see it now, but it doesn't look bad, he suits it, it gives him a wide eyed look. :D Duggie doesn't suit his, he looks knackered, but maybe he is just tired with all his ankle gnashing. :005:

Yeah, can definitely see what you mean Fiona. I guess it much more noticeable  now you've hacked his fringe off too  ph34r :005:

I wouldn't worry about it, I can't imagine its anything that is causing wee Duggie a problem, but then I haven't any idea really  :embarassed: :005:

I have noticed (well, I think I have) that all liver coloured dogs have those pink eye-lids like Jarv's. Annie's lab, Bas, has exactly the same. And interestingly the local liver coloured bull has eyes like that  :005:   Sorry....bit off topic   :shades:

How thick are I and OH, of course that's why we have just noticed it - we couldn't see his eyes before! :o And, hacked is the right word for what I did to the poor soul! :005:

What were you doing that you were looking into a bulls' eyes?! ph34r I have never heard of a bull been described as liver before, is it not just brown? :lol2:

What were you doing that you were looking into a bulls' eyes?

I was wondering that too  :lol2:

(If Duggie rubbing at his eyes more than normal then I would definitely check it out - and as he's going to the vetinhairyone anyway I would get him to check it  ;) )

I have never heard of a bull been described as liver before, is it not just brown? :lol2:

sheesh Fiona, where have you been - have you never heard the phrase 'how now liver cow' before?

(I like the word 'brown' best of all  ph34r )

Poppy also has bald edging to her eyes! George the choc lab has very pronounced eyes too- like Jarv. Perhaps its a liver thing?

it definitely is for those who carry the liver gene and have pinky/brown noses and paler eyes.  The liver working cockers I know with darker pigmented nose and darker eyes don't seem to have this as pronounced  ;)

Definitely right! Just looked at his nose in a photo and it is light!

Oh yes, I use that one in my elocution lessons all the time. :lol2:

He's not been rubbing his eyes at all, although I've probably taken a few hairs off trying to remove the non-existant gunk! :005: I wasn't sure about taking him to the vetinhairyone at first, as it seems everytime I open my mouth at work, it's to say "Duggie has...", "Tia is..." "One of my rats needs...", I think they must be sick of giving me free advice! :005:

 :rofl1: :rofl1: :clapping:

You see what you have done to me Helen....it's all your fault....I'm now referring to brown cows as liver cows cos my head has gone skew wiff with all the talk about liver, brown and chocolate dogs on here  :005: :005:

The gorgeous brown bull is in a field just down the road and Chloe and I walk past him most days.....sometimes he is right up at the fence and Chloe likes to go and say hello....they've even had a wee kiss through the fence....so I did get a very good view  :005: :005:

I was thinking that when I read it, "Sue is scared to call any animal brown or chocolate now, in case she gets a row". :005:

Did you see that programme about liver bears the other night Sue? It was on just after Boney M were on singing "Liver Girl in the Ring", and just before Van Morrison's "My Liver Eyed Girl". :lol2:

That had me in stitches too

I've got a couple of baldy eyes too! Dave's eyes happen to be in his black patches not roan areas so luckily the skin is so black underneath that you can't really tell. Normy has pink rims too - The Weimy silver colour is actually a dilute form of brown liver so she's got the same pinkness around her eyes that Jarv has  :luv:

Tilly has very noticeable pink rims around her eyes as well although she has a darker brown nose.

Roxy is liver/Chocolate/brown roan  ph34r and she has 'baldy' eyes too! although not quite so pink they are lighter than her fur and more pinky than liver/Chocolate/brown!!

Is this now the correct way to describe a poopy coloured dog so as to avoid offending anyone!!!?  :005:

I'm now wondering why all these "liver" dogs have pink skin, plus Dave has black skin under his black hair, but Duggie has white skin under his hair?? :dunno:

I remember years ago, when one of my brown and white hooded rats had an op, he had a huge shaved area, and he had striped skin under his striped fur! :005:

I forgot to update this, just remembered after seeing Jarvis's pic of him wanting a walk! :005:

I took Duggie (now Dougie) to the vets and she thought he may have demodex mites, which is very serious, but gave him Maxitrol eyedrops to try for a week or so. Luckily, they worked well, despite me not getting them in his eyes half the time due to him gnashing! ::)

The good news is, they obviously worked, and stopped any itching, or whatever he had, and the hair around his eyes has now grown in again. :D :luv:

Glad he is all better.

So is poopy the new brown, which is the new black?! :005:

Tia had conjunctivitis, hers cleared up within a few days - it was just Dougie who was baldy! :005:

I think mud is the new black. ;)
