This afternoon Harry got into the bin and ate a latex glove (OH had just used gloves to clear up after someone was ill in his taxi :020: )
I rang the vet straight away - scared about blockages especially after just reading about poor Buffy. The vet said we just had to wait and see if it came out the other end and said if Harry is sick or becomes unwell to get him there asap, which frightened me a little.
Because I was panicking I didn't ask about what to do about feeding Harry - do I give him normal size meals and hope it 'helps' the glove out, or is that likely to cause more problems if there is a blockage?
He has been to the loo this evening and no sign of the glove - how long might it take to go through his system?
I am so worried, Harry is so precious and has not had the best start in life, and I couldn't bear him to be unwell.
what with Ben and his limpy leg things are not to good here at the moment :-\
-
silly harry! i am sure he will be fine and you need to be guided by the vets.
Watch him closely and I am sure all will be well. Very worrying though x
-
Sorry no advice, but I hope he is ok :luv: :luv:
-
I hope Harry passes the glove without any incident :-*
No advice either sorry :luv:
-
Would giving Harry something oily (like tuna in oil), a cod liver oil capsule, something oily, help 'ease' the glove through his system?
I am sure other COLers will suggest alternatives but if it was one of my dogs I would like to get it out as soon as possible.
If nothing 'happens' tonight or tomorrow morning, perhaps you could ask your vet's advice as the best way to help things along. :D
Fingers crossed for Harry. :luv:

I would give it a good 12 hours or so to work its way through, I think general digestion time is 7-10 hours or so depending on what they've eaten but this may take longer. I would try the suggestion of giving him something like fish in oil and if you give him other food I'd go for small amounts of something easily digestible and other than that just keep an eye on him for the signs of something being stuck - straining to poo, retching, a 'hunched up' appearance, abdominal discomfort, general lethargy and 'out of sorts'. I really hope he manages to pass it ok, what a worry for you :-\ :luv:

Thank you all for your advice, I am probably worrying too much, but my dogs are my life and I don't cope well when things go wrong with them ph34r
Since typing this earlier Harry has eaten a stone in the garden and chewed the end off a pen and swallowed it, he just seems to be a compulsiver eater which is worrying. The house has never been so tidy as we try to keep everything out of his reach, but he has figured out all the bins now, the one he raided today is a strong, very tall stainless steel pedal bin. He can reach most surfaces and jumps on and off the beds to reach bedside tables. We keep all upstairs doors shut as much as possible. He managed to squeeze behuind the computer desk to reach a pen that I didn't even know was there. Yesterday he got in the bath and picked up the bottle of radox bubble bath from the shelf, thank goodness the top was on tight ::)
Oh well off to buy some oily fish and see what appears........
-
How is Harry today - any signs?
{{hugs}} to you all
-
I feel so grateful right now, the worst thing my two do is go through my shopping bags when I come in, and steal a tray of cat food!
I did have a naughty boy, Chewitt, he was my first, and he was a nightmare, but thankfully he stopped at things like electric razors and wedding photos............ ::) :lol2:
Really hope Harry passes the glove today without any problems, keep us posted x x

any news on the glove Maxine?

any news on the glove Maxine?
I was wondering that too :luv:
Please let us know what is happening with Harry :luv:
-
Hope Harry and the glove have parted company???
I can just imagine you checking his deposits to see if it is in there :005:
Seriously, hope he is ok and it has come out naturally......
-
Oh these dogs of ours..............how they worry us. But, we wouldn't want to be without them would we?
I do hope everything passes through normally, and that Harry is ok.
:luv: :luv:
-
As you put it so well Penny yes we are 'checking his deposits' :005: The neighbours probably think we are mad.
no sign of the glove yet :-\
Had a really bad night last night he was trying to be sick on and off all night but couldn't, just heaving (sorry if too graphic!)
The vet said it was ok for him to be doing that as long as he was still lively and eating and everything coming out the other end ok, which it is
So I guess we just wait, the vet said to bring him in if he goes lathargic or off his food, it is a worry as I don't like the thought of it still being in there, but he seems ok in himself today....... cockers who'd have them >:(
-
Glad to hear he's OK in himself. Hope the glove makes an appearance soon
-
That's good that he's still ok in himself and pooing ok, hopefully it'll make an appearance soon, they do know how to worry us these dogs! ph34r :luv: :luv:
-
Any 'signs' of the glove yet?
-
The glove arrived safely at 4am last night! Its safe to say its not wearable any more :005:
Joking aside, it has really been worrying as I was just watching him all the time to see if there were any signs of an obstruction. The internet is a wonderful resource, but can also be frightening as you can have 'too much' information and I knew potentially any obstruction can be nasty, common sense tells you that in the majority of cases things pass through on thier own, but common sense goes out the window when its your own dog.
Harry is not remorseful in the slightest for all the worry he has caused me ;)
Thanks for your thoughts over the last couple of days :-*
-
So pleased its turned up! Least you can get a good nights sleep now and stop fretting.
-
That is fantastic news!
-
That's great news, I'm glad he's ok and you can relax again :D
-
That's a relief, thanks for updating us :D
You can get back to concentrating on your other patient now :luv:
-
That IS good news!! Glad it finally came out :005:
-
Congratulations on the arrival of the glove :005: Seriously it is a worry when you are waiting for them to pass a foreign object isn't it :-\ My cavie did this to us a few times ::)
-
So pleased that it has all happened naturally for Harry.
Why do they insist on eating horrible things...............surely they can't really enjoy the taste. I caught one of mine with a brillo pad he had pinched from the bin..........luckily got him before he devoured it. :D
-
Really pleased you have had a 'delivery' :lol2:
I noticed that just like a lot of other deliveries it arrived at a very inconvenient hour :005:
Glad that you have made your announcement to all the other expectant COLers :D
-
oh that is great news :D the worry they cause us! >:D

I found a chewed up lip balm yesterday - Ozzy obviously didn't like the plastic outside but I'll give you one good guess as to where the inside went (the lip balm stuff!!). At least it shouldn't have too much trouble 'slipping' out the other end :005:
Glad the glove has been returned and things can get back to normal. :luv:
