Title: Just a quick update on my puppy
Post by: lucy123 on February 12, 2010, 11:16:48 AM
Hiya,

I thought i would just update everyone on how my puppy is doing. He is now just over three months old.

He is excellent on his lead and  rarely pulls, he is learning that when we get near the edge of the road he has to sit. However he will not stop jumping at passers by, he likes alot of fuss.

He is still not fully house trained yet and will go out in the garden, come in and then go to the toilet on the kitchen floor  >:D hopefully this will stop soon, any advice which may help with this would be greatly appreciated.

His play biting has stopped and he is a pleasure to be around, he is a real character and i am so happy that i have him.

He is also getting used to his crate which was a struggle to begin with.

Sorry to ramble on, im just so proud of how far he has come in such a short period of time  :luv:

You could try taking some yummy treats out with you, then before he gets a chance to jump up get his attention on you instead - till peeps have passed, then praise him

It's always nice to read when puppies are starting to behave  :luv: However, I then have to read a couple of posts about bad puppies to stop me wanting another one  :005:
Glad things are going well  :D

Really pleased to hear how well pup is doing Lucy ....... sounds like he's learn't so much already & he's still only a baby  :luv:
Well done you for all the hard work you've put in so far but stick with it - he'll get there in the end  ;)
IMO pups are a bit like babies/children - the more time you give them when they are young, rewards you ten fold when they are older. Bet you end up with a super little dog when he's older & you'll both have a wonderful bond too  :luv: :luv:

Thanks for your comments  :luv:

I agree with you lindsey, they really are like having children, i am a single parent to a three year old and because of the quality time we spend together she is well ahead of her age  :luv:

hi lucy
your little pup sounds lovely. Im new to cockers (have had springers before). My little one nell is 4 months old and sounds very similar to yours except she cries and cries when left in the kitchen when we move rooms. We have a stairgate across the kitchen door so she can see us , but she so doesnt like not actually being with us. She was identical to you in that would be outside and come inside to have a wee, i found that with time she vastly improved. Your little one is doing amazingly well. We are also trying to stopm nell jumping up, she is improving daily by me holding her collar and saying down, but she just cant help but get very excitable.
Have a lovely time
xx

Re the coming in to wee - do you go out into the garden with him?

If not its worth wrapping up warm and sticking it out until he performs then giving lots of praise.  Its a bit of a pain sometimes especially when you have a little one in tow!  You will probably only need to do it a week or two before the penny will drop and after that you can go back to just opening the door.

Re the jumping up I am still working on that one too - I have been teaching my 4 month old pup "Down" and I shout it if I think she is about to jump up onto someone - The other day she took me a little literally and lay down (legs in the air) by the feet of someone who happened to be standing by a large muddy puddle - you should have seen the state of her!! :005:

Good luck - enjoy!

Sounds like he's coming along really well. Funny how it's different things that take longer to train. Fraser was great with house breaking (and I still go outside with him in the morning and evening to make sure he goes and to remove the evidence :) but loose leash walking was a struggle and is still a work in progress. At 8 months, he's a great pup and showing increasing signs of maturity. Cheeky as hell sometimes, but I guess that goes with the teenage years. Your pup sounds well in hand. What is his name?

It is great news the he's behaving

I have a 12 week old puppy and he is brilliant considering he is so young
It's so rewarding when you know its all your hard work paying off

Well done xx ;)
