The revised judging order is now on the So'ton & Dist. Canine Association website. Cockers are after Flat Coats, Irish Setters, Italian Spinones and GSPs. Is anyone able to give me a very rough idea how long it may take to judge those breeds please? It's been so long since I did any showing that I have no idea what sort of entry those breeds may get at open shows. I'm probably going to arrive early to be on the safe side and also because I think Louis won't like the venue as I know it will be crowded, noisy and echoey, so he'll need time to get his confidence.
He'll be going to Sue Rihoy for a makeover this Friday, so I'll have to keep him clean (somehow) between then and Sunday.
Two more questions to ask. I ordered a catalogue when I entered. Do I collect that and my number on the day or will they be posted to me beforehand? Will I be able to buy a clip for my number at the show? I had a very smart one given to me at Bournemouth Champ. Show in about 1990 when it was a special jubilee for the show, but I can't find it now. It'll probably turn up on the Antiques Roadshow soon :lol2:
Is anybody else going? I'd like to say hi to anyone who is as long as you don't laugh at my inept handling and naughty puppy :lol2:

Can't help with your queries about the show Elaine but just wanted to wish you & Louis the very best of luck ;)
Have a lovely day & enjoy yourself ........... Louis's a gorgeous boy ..... be proud of him & show him off :luv:
Would love to come if I can make it but if not, will keep an eye out for the results on here :shades: ;)

Collect your catalogue when you arrive and usually you will get your ring number when you are called into the ring by the ring steward. Have fun and enjoy the experience

Hi Elaine, we try to get to the show as close as we can to when it opens due to parking. Also, you never know how many dogs are entered before you so if you leave it too long you run the risk of missing your classes. You will get your catalogue normally from the secretarys table and ring number will either be pinned to the catalogue or given out by the stewards in the ring when you go in for your classes. Sometimes there are stalls at shows which sell ring clips but I wouldn't count on it just in case. It might be a good idea to take a safety pin with you. Best wishes and enjoy your day xx

Out of an entry of 20+ only 4 Cockers were there on the day! But that was typical of the show overall. It had been re-scheduled from January 10th, when it was a victim of the bad weather, and it seems like a lot of exhibitors already had other commitments today.

Puppy - 5 entries, 3 absent.
1st & Best Puppy in breed - Estall's Tyaltonwood Sweet Wonder (Louis) :luv:
2nd - Disson's Zakova Top Tottie
Post Graduate - 9 entered, 8 absent
1st & BOB - Hutchings' Asquanne Go Likely At Beechwood
Open - 8 entered, 7 absent
1st - Hutchings' Cascadia I Chico At Beechtops
Sue Hutchings BOB went on to be Reserve Best Gundog. (Well done Sue, who isn't a COLer as far as I know, but I go to Romsey Ringcraft where she is one of the trainers and she's very helpful)
I was really pleased with the way Louis coped with his first show. He's been horrible at Ringcraft over the last couple of weeks, barking a lot and ignoring me (I think he's definitely a teenager now). But today he hardly barked at all and after a couple of minutes of anxiety when we first went in and found the noise and echoes frightening, he settled down really well.
He doesn't go in crates but happily sat on top of his watching the world go by and getting lots of attention from people. He didn't behave brilliantly in the ring, but a lot better than I expected. He was very good while the judge went over him but it took him a while to stop pulling and bouncing about when I moved him. The judge was very patient with him.
I took these photos when we got home. They're not great because I can't stack him and take a photo at the same time! Also, he looks a bit tired after his long day and a bit bedraggled after being in the garden. But you can see that his horrid topknot has gone. Sue Rihoy did him for me on Friday and he looked so handsome then.
