After reading the Cockerpoo thread about moulting and non moulting dogs, it reminded me of something I was going to ask. Do your Cockers Moult?, Belle doesn't appear to, the only time I get covered in fur is when she has a good grooning/strip, when she is brushed daily there is only a small amount of fur in the brush. When I went to my Mums the other day I was petting her Lab (black) and was amazed by how much fur came out as I was stroking her, I know my Mum brushes her daily but she is always complaining about the amount of hair she sheds. Belles coat is completely differents to Cher's my Mums Lab, we have cream throws on the settee where you will usually find Belle and there is never any hair on them. Is this usual in Cockers ?
-
hamish does not moult at all. Maybe we are lucky with this breed. Saying that his fur is quite short.
-
Maddi (black show type) doesn't seem to moult at all. :luv:
Murphy (white/black ticked worker) moults like a demon - white hair everywhere, I'm amazed he's not bald :lol2:
-
Milo is 8 months old now and losing alot of hair, I swear I could make a little dog out of what I sweep up daily!
-
Roxy moults like mad! all the time! and she doesn't even have a full show type coat as she is part worker! Everything in our house is always covered in white fur. When I take clean socks out of the washer they are covered in clean white hairs!!!!
-
I would say that cockers moult but only a little bit. Not sure id even call it moulting as it seems to be more constant than loosing a lot all at once.
My Grandads Golden Retriever - that moulted like mad, stroke him your hand would be covered in hair.
Parents Yorkie and Poodles - Never seem to loose any
Missy certainly looses hair more so in the hotter months when i brush her. The floor in our house with it being laminate this also needs cleaning more in summer time.
-
Bonnie is not too bad ,at least you would think so because you cant see big clumps of fur anywhere. The vacuum tells the full story though as there is always loads in it. Lucy Puddy cat is the worst though.
-
Rodaidh and Caoimhe despite being working Cockers and having fine, silky coats both shed like it's going out of fashion. They don't have big twice yearly moults like my old GSD did but they lose hair pretty much constantly; Ro's the worst for it, there are fine gold hairs all over the house no matter how often I hoover ::) Tilly doesn't shed but her body coat has that post spay/post clipping cotton wool texture.
-
Ive found generally with dogs that the light furred or short hair dogs are worse. Or at least seem to be.
My friend has 3 dalmations and they moult so much. She hoovered out her car the other day and despite my 2 being in there once of twice a day all she found was short white dalmation hair :D
-
When I pat Dougie and Tia, I don't see any hair falling out, but sweeping up tells a different story - plus, there are always hairs in the fridge/oven/bed, etc! :005:
-
Eric just leaves really long white hairs every now and again but nothing major. Lucy seems to moult a little bit more or maybe they are just more noticeable because they are ginger  Although I don't think they moult too bad the kitchen floor and under the sideboard seem to tell a slightly different story ph34r I thought that I had found a stray dog under the sideboard one day :005: ph34r I don't think they moult half as bad as my Mum's black lab and my mate's yellow lab is the worst for moulting ::)
-
Meg doesnt shed at all, but like Nicola's Tilly she is spayed and clipped. We were quite shocked when Alfie came and our clothes were covered in white hairs :shades: but he doesnt seem quite as bad now :dunno: i am combing/brushing him daily but hardly anything comes out. The kitchen and hall floors are covered though if you look carefully and they are swept and mopped every day! My next door neighbour has a yellow lab and golden retriever and she says they are a total nightmare for moulting, we are always hearing the hoover :005: xxx
-
My 2 solids shed very little  but my roans do lose a fair bit :-\ but nowhere as much a my golden retrievers they are really bad. I hoover at least twice a day due to their moulting :-\
-
OMG, yes. Well our two orange roans do. I'm known as the dog lady at work, as everything I wear has dog fur on it :005:
Dylan and Morgan  who are blue roan, don't seem to shed so much, but I think that's more to do with not noticing the colour I think.
Plus we have wooden floors in our house, so you get a gathering of tumble weed (even when hoovered and wiped daily). With carpets it's not as noticable.
And they all get brushed daily.

It's definitely that way with CKCs - my black and tan hardly moults at all, whereas when we had a tricolour, his white fur moulted all over the show with a light covering everywhere. I am wondering if the lighter colours of fur are drier and therefore more prone to shedding.
-
Torin is a show type with a very thick black coat and he sheds very little hair. :D
-
Trev (solid gold) never seemed to loose hair but I do find a few of Dave's white from his blue roan coat around. Having said that.... I also find colourless fluff balls floating around the house regularly, did when I had Trev too so they've got to come from somewhere  I think Normy does shed but not horribly so and Weimaraner hairs are a sort of transparent grey anyway so very hard to spot :D
-
Ruby, my black and tan , does not seem to moult, but Ted who is an orange roan moults sooooo much, its hard to believe he has any fur left ph34r ! We are constantly covered in his fur and always hoovering and sweeping it up.
-
We have Molly and Poppy, Molly who is full show type, doesn't seem to moult very much although it's deceptive, I have wooden floors but whenever I move the settee there always seems to be another black dog under there :005: Poppy who is show/worker on the other hand is losing quite a bit of hair she's white so needless to say I try to avoid black clothes ;) but we love em , hairs n all :luv: :D
-
Maggie loses her white hair loads more than her black... My carpet is quite light so doesn't show much, but there a little collections of it round the edges of the laminate :)
-
Mmmmmm its interesting that there seems to be a pattern developing with colours and shedding ? I tink I imagined that as she has a very heavy coat that she would shed all over the place but its just not the case, thanks for all your replies ;)
-
Absolutely nothing comes out of mine when shes stroked and she never leaves hair on my clothes - maybe thats because shes clipped or shes now an adult, however when she was blowing her puppy coat, it was absolutely everywhere - it even got into the freezer
-
my three blue roans dont shed hair or very little after a bath , i once fostered a red cocker and OMG did he drop hair everywhere, ive always wanted a orange roan but thought that prob they would be bad for dropping the white hair, i agree with sarah1985 and mooching, i have a white cat and my friend and sister have jack russels and their hair is everywhere, it comes out in handfulls
-
pleased to say neither of mine moult at all :D I thought i was just lucky with Ben, but when Harry came he dosn't seem to loose much hair eaither. Its great :005:
-
Oh my word we have just picked Monty our new pup up and boy does he shed, there are golden hairs everywhere :o ::) and to think I started this thread as I was surprised by Belle, a very hairy cocker didn't shed now a little pupster with loads less hair is sheding for Wales ::) :005:
-
Ruby is a blue roan,(unclipped) and she sheds LOADS >:(
If she sits on your lap she leaves hair behind, her hair is all over the lace and this is with regular brushing ::)
I think she might get clipped soon.........
-
Yes like crazy >:(
It drives me mad! He only has to be on my bed for ten seconds and it's absolutely covered in hairs. I find them everywhere despite that fact i hoover every single day, some days even twice.
-
Molly must be loosing short black hair all the time I never see it coming out but it is everywhere ! she is clipped.
-
Rox and Rio hardly moult at all, but this maybe as they're very over shadowed by Penny (Lab X who moults for England! I really would've been better with a black carpet!!). Mika (Spitz) moults a little, but then has two major moults twice a year where it comes out like chunks of candyfloss! :005: ph34r
-
yes, he moults horrendously most of the year - and he's an entire liver working cocker, and yes he gets brushed regularly and combed with steel comb/rubber band combo (not that you would know it by the state of him ph34r )
-
Ginny hasn't moulted yet but is maybe a bit young?
-
My Sam moults like nothing on Earth. Hair everywhere lol
-
I have to say i havent had a problem with this - however my girls go to a dog groomers once a month so maybe this is why?
-
well after feeling smug and writing that Ben and Harry don't moult, I happened to mention to OH that we were really lucky that the boys don't shed hair as some other peoples cockers seem to.
Was slightly taken back when he just looked at me open mouthed, then said the boys do moult a lot, its just that he runs the hoover round a couple of times a day while I am at work.......... ph34r ph34r

:005: :005: Would you consider lending him out??? ;)
-
Theo does moult but my working springer moults all the time. I could brush him for 2 hours daily and the house would still be covered. I keep a lint roller in my drawer at work which I use every morning as soon as I arrive. :005:
-
Penny my little black and an tan show type doesnt moult but as others have said my sons orange roan clipped short sheds all year
-
Holly's 9 months and she moults all the time, white hairs everywhere!!
-
we only find white hairs not black not sure why?
