Title: Emergency visit to vets with Buster & Ollie - update: they're home now!
Post by: helshaw on March 10, 2010, 05:56:11 PM
Came home from work to an empty fridge. Somebody had eaten :

2 x packets of ham
1 packet of chorizo sausage
1 sausage roll
1 Weightwatchers yogurt
1 250g block of cheese
1 tub of flora
1 tub of spreadable butter

But the worst thing was a 100g Green & Black block of plain chocolate.

Rang the vets & she said bring them both in & they would make them sick. Got there & she gave them an injection, after a couple of minutes they both vomited & there was loads. Buster had eaten the most but must teach him to chew his food as there was big chunks of ham. She thought Ollie could have been the one who had eaten the chocolate by the colour of the vomit but after a while when neither of there heart rates would go down she decided to keep them in overnight & put them on a drip.

Got home & the house is so quiet without them & will not sleep tonight as I will be worried about them.
Got to ring later & will then ring in the morning & hopefully they will be okay to come home. They will get a stern telling off & hopefully they will have learnt there lesson but I doubt it.

What a relief that their heart rates have gone down now, hope they're back with you tomorrow. We used to have a dog that could open the fridge door, we had to wedge the kitchen bench against the fridge whenever we went out without her   >:(

Will definitely be investing in a fridge lock. Buster's 6 so I dont know why he has started fridge raiding. Just 2 in the bed tonight is going to be so strange.

As the owner of a 'opener of toiletry bags and eater of Anadin' I sympathise!!  There is nothing worse than watching them being sick at the vets.  I know what you mean about missing them in bed too.  Somehow a husband just isn't enough ph34r :005:  Glad they are on the road to recovery xx

Post by: helshaw on March 11, 2010, 05:36:04 PM
You will be pleased to know they are home & seem back to normal. I rang the vets this morning & told the vet nurse who I was ringing about. Her reply was ''oh, my 2 favourite patients'' & I said ''What have they done''. They had destoyed everything in their kennel, tipped their water up & both pulled out their IV lines. Couldnt pick them up until this afternoon but least they are home now. We have got a fridge lock now & also locks on the other cupboards just in case. I thought we had got past all that as the children got older. Luckily they are both insured but will still have to pay excess for both of them. The joys of having a dog. Thanks for all your good wishes.

Do cockers ever learn their lesson. Came home to day to a perfect house but only because Buster cant get in the cupboard with the bin. It was open partly but we have got a lock on there now so thank goodness it wouldnt open anymore. I like honeypenny's description of hoodies in disguise, definitely Buster & Ollie but least they have got personalities & arent boring.
