I have always laughed when anyone says their dog has rolled in something smelly as i've never had that problem with mine.... until today >:(
Billy came back from his morning walk with my dad and he STUNK really bad.... my dad said he rolled in something revolting and he put him in the lake and tried to wash it off unsucessfully ::)
Alfie must've known he smelt bad coz he wouldn't go near him :005: i called billy in holding my nose and told him to get upstairs to the bathroom... normally i couldn't get him to go upstairs for love nor money but he seemed quite relieved and happily got in the bath himself :lol2: i have a few nice smelling shampoos ranging from tea tree oil, to lavendar and mint to citrus which i usually alternate but not today he got each one on him and rinsed thoroughly and he still smells a bit :o :o
WHY oh why would he want to smell that rancid????? Do they really think they smell good after they roll in something revolting? i don't get it >:( :dunno:
Anyway if anyone would like a smelly cocker who has taught himself the joys of rolling in disgusting things today they are more than welcome to him ph34r :005:

:005: Opps...
Charley today aftter training was taken to our local field/ woods to practice our recall homework ! and he too rolled in what i think was a Fox poo - it stank !!!!!!!
Why he did it i have no idea, but my car now pongs too and Charley had a bath as soon as we got in - so did his collar have a good ole scrub it was everywhere, disgusting.... he is now out in the parents garden drying off with a marrowbone, actually looking rather chuffed he had had a nice 3 productive hours out of the house !
Im sure there must be a dog "reason " for doing this but it really does smell awful, and it was all under his chin near his mouth urrrgggghhh
-
I want him :luv: :luv:- now that he has been bathed of course :005:
-
Billy's was all on his neck, chin and shoulder too >:D luckily he was wearing his dublin collar so it just wiped off ::) glad i'm not the only one with a dog that rolls :005:
He's now packing his bag and compass and on his way to you cockers rock :005:
He may pass through some other peoples villages and towns on the way but you'll know when you smell him :005: ph34r
-
Yippee - he looks lovely and I'm sure the smell will disappear after a few more baths
I'll put Hector on notice that he is getting a handsome new bro' :005: :005:
-
:005: Don't blame me when he teaches Hector naughty things though :005: ph34r

I know the feeling! I also have a very smelly Milo today after he rolled in fox poo yesterday. He has now had three baths with shampoo and he still smells!! I am hoping for some tips on how to get rid of the smell

I'm sure I've read on here before that tomato ketchup gets rid of the pong. Rub it on the (clean!) area then wash off. It's something I've always remembered just in case Cooper finds some fox poo but so far have been lucky.

Ah Hector knows a few naughty things - fox poo is a favourite - however and this is a big big plus he is very very good and amenable to being cleaned up and will sit under the shower quite happily!!
Be just as quick to shower two dogs so am still happy to have handsome Billy :005: :005:

Found this - maybe a reason and a remedy for smell using the tomato ketchup method lol
"This is a habit linked to the hunting ancestry of doggies. Rolling in muck disguises the scent of your dog - in her mind that prevents her prey from smelling her & running away. In reality of course, there is no prey in the sense of a dinner but it's an instinct & virtually all dogs do it anyway.
As you can imagine, they believe they smell wonderful, so are puzzled by your determination to wash them at once!
Think of it as a fragrant disguise mechanism.
(By the way, fox crap is a fave as we know just how vile it is - rinsing the dog in tomato juice removes the worst of the pong. If in North America, this also works for skunk spray)."
Charley and Prey lol.................... not when he gets his human waiter delivering it !

Tomatoe puree works best as its stronger. ( but diffuicult to get a lather going thou. :005:). Mine just eat the tomatoe sauce when i use that and it gives them the runs. Tomatoe puree is better.
Mine thinks fox poo is perfume so Im constantly bathing him.
If you;ve got the poo out with nomal shampoo you can try rubbing bicarb into their fur then brush it out later. Takes the smell out with it. Its not as affective as the tomatoe treatment but saves giving them another bath. You might want to try giving them a couple of round of it befoe the smell is completely gone.
Actually that works for most of the smell they come home stinking of. Including river smell.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the bicarb tip - i will see was happens tomorrow as we will be out again trying out our re-call homework ..... If i have another episode urrggghhh then i will defo use that - smelling nice, looking clean at the mo - lets see how long it lasts ! makes me laugh how proud he seemed looking messy and smelling yuk - but he was very pleased with himself

-
He looks so adorable. Bet you would want him back within a few hours.....stinky little boy or not. :005: :005:

I'm actually dreading the day Tiffany rolls in fox poo. There's been the odd dead bird wing and the like, but, urghh, shiver. I've heard that lemon juice is good for the pong if the dogs light coloured and you don't want the tomato juice/sauce to discolour their fur. Tiff is B&T but must keep both in on stand-by!

My boys going fo the record. Hes had 2 fox poo baths this week. I heard the girls are worse but he seems to think its perfume. I hope my little girl doesnt start as well when shes olde
My mum couldnt work out why u keep tomatoe puree in the bath room :005:
