Title: How Much Does your Cocker Drink ?
Post by: mel1961red on March 18, 2010, 11:06:50 PM
Hi

I just wanted to ask if any one thinks Bailey who is 10 Months drinks too much hes got a normal size water bowl
and probably drinks 2 sometimes 3 a day I know he does his pelican but sometimes and fills his mouth and
lets it all fall out over my carpet but does this seem too much. He has been known after a longer walk to drink a whole bowlful
at once

I think they're all a bit different when it comes to drinking water.

William likes a clean water bowl and is a slow, careful drinker. He has a few drinks every day and in hot weather will have a longer drink than usual after a walk or training.

Louis seems to drink much more frequently, but very little of it stays in his mouth. Every time he has a drink I have to mop up with kitchen roll because he loudly slurps up loads of water then walks round the kitchen dribbling most of it out. It's more noticeable just after he's eaten or when we get back from a walk, when he will go to the water bowl 3 or 4 times in the space of a few minutes. I use at least 2 kitchen rolls a week mopping up after him >:(

I wouldn't worry about how much or how often Bailey drinks unless you notice a change in his drinking habits such as drinking a lot more for no obvious reason.

Dylan is like William he takes slow deep gulps, but Jessie is a big drinker,  if she is out in the garden comes back in drink, goes out for a wee and in drink.  Though in the summer have to watch her as since her spay she can suffer from leaking problems, but don't like to restict her water.

Ginny drinks a lot of water and especially after a walk. She is on a dry food diet and I think this can mean they need plenty to drink.

Baxter drinks loads of water (slopping half of it all over the floor )he always has since being a small puppy.I always used to think he drank far too much but now I let him have as much as he wants.Angus hardly drinks any only a couple of times throughout the day they are both on dried food don't think it matters as long as its not loads of bowls a dayas my last dog had kidney problems and was very ill one day he had 4 full bowls thats when we took him to the vets and found out his problem.

Odie who is 3 months old, seems to drink huge amounts (I can tell because he is ALWAYS weeing!  My mam's whippet hardly drinks a drop all day so all dogs must be different!  ;)

Ben only drinks cold clean water and usually about once a day but lots all at once
Harry will drink anything, anytime, anywhere and has lots and lots of small drinks throughout the day  :D

I think they are all different  ;)

Dougie drinks loads, he has a huge drink after every meal (dry food), frequent drinks of muddy muddles on walks ( :P) and a big drink after a long walk/run around. He has always been like this so, so I don't worry. :D

Tia doesn't drink much, usually just after meals, and she will never take a drink when offered on a walk - she'd rather have food! ::) :005:

I came on COL to ask about drinking habits (not mine or yours, cheers) and see this thread is already in place. Fraser doesn't seem to drink very much at all. He's on dry food and you'd think he'd want some water after eating, but he never does. I'll take him for a frisbee runaround and he'll be panting, but when I offer him water back at the car, he'll maybe take a couple of small slurps and that's it. Even then he's seems to be taking it to be polite. He's healthy and glossy, so I suppose his little body knows what it needs, but it sure doesn't seem like much water. He doesn't even finish one bowl per day. (9 1/2 months and 27 lbs in case that's relevant.)
