Hello, I hope someone will be able to help, Does anyone know what I should give selby when on holiday in Greece to prevent bites from Sandflies and also mossys, I understand they have the I think french heartworm there as well. Should I use a preventative or just treat him when we get home. All the vets says is use the Scalibor collar but I am not sure that that is enough. he was born on the 19th November so will be just over 6 months when we go at the end of May, we are going for a month. Any advice would be welcome. thanks

Hi there
I hope that I can help with a little bit of advice. I live in Malta and Sandfly is very common here. One of my dogs has the disease but we manage,so far to keep it under control. You say you will be holidaying in Greece? I am not certain what the Sandfly situation is there but lets assume you are at risk :shades: you must use a Scalibor collar; they are not 100% but they do deter. Most importantly is where you allow your dog to sleep and rest during the day and night and especially at dusk when the Sandfly becomes active. You should avoid courtyard/enclosed walled spaces as thats where Sandfly hide out - a breeze is good so if you have a fan and your dog will tolerate it keeping him/her in its stream will help. If you need to exercise after dark a few drops of citrus oil in a carrier (almond oil is what I use) rubbed in your hands then run your hands over the head/body/ears provides an extra deterrent. It is really important that you are as careful as you can be; Sandfly is a terrible disease and there is no cure. Are you traveling from UK to Greece ? just curious as I notice that Selby is only 6 months old, so I wondered about the Pet passport regulations and how they would apply, but I expect your vet is advising. Enjoy your holiday :D

OK this is me again.
My vet here in Greece, advises the following.
use scalibor + advantix ambule (I am not sure if this is the correct word in Enlgish) on a monthly basis begining immediately. http://k9advantix.petparents.com/howItWorks.cfm
This combination will be safe enough! ;)
