Title: Four Day Old Pups
Post by: Singleton on March 27, 2010, 02:17:37 PM
I have some four day old pups two of which have suddenly got little scabs on their backs. I was washed them with a mild solution of Hibiscrub in case it is a bacterial infection. Can anyone tell me what causes it and have they seen it. Have spoken to a couple of breeders and they have said not to worry.
I have bred a different breed for many years and not seen this before.

Look at the skin underneath the crust. If it is healthy and pink looking, it is just something some puppies may get similar to cradle cap. You want to use something very mild to clean it up an make sure it is well rinsed so mum doesn't get bothered by it.

You can also use some mineral oil or olive oil to loosen it up and pick or comb the crust off. Usually a one off thing, not contagious and the puppy won't have it again
