Title: Xylitol Question

 I understand that xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar found in the fibre of fruits and vegetables.

I know that Xylitol can be toxic to dogs but yet people are happy to feed dogs fruit and vegetables (including myself)?

My question is, does xylitol become toxic to dogs when it is 'extracted' from the fibres of fruit and vegetables and 'processed' to sweeten gum and sweets etc.  Or is it because fruit and vegetable fibre only contains minimal amounts of xylitol and that higher concentrations are used for sweetening processed foods?

Don't know, sorry.

I don't think it is a completely natural product. It's one I steer clear of myself anyway.
