Title: weeping eyes
Post by: haygar on April 10, 2010, 11:15:02 AM
Hi sorry to bombard people with questions as im new to this site..

We have Daisy 18week cocker and since last week her eyes seem to be weeping a bit more.(they have always done it to an extent since we got her) Everytime she sleeps and wakes up she has yellow/white discharge in corner of her eyes (look bit like bogies). Ive been trying to bathe her eyes as much as i can when i can get her to sit still.. sometimes they look bloodshot and other times they dont. Im not sure if she has conjunctivitis or not as they dont seem to bother her too much.sometimes she rubs them but then im not sure if shes rubbing her mouth as shes teething.

Has anyone elses puppy have or had this?do i need to take her to the vets?

thank you
Hayley

Harvey has eye bogies, he's 16 weeks - has always had them - I just clear them when they accumilate - vet said nothing was wrong - it's just him - Eye Bogey Harvey!  :D

Not unknown in puppies but I would still get them checked.  Very occasionally young pups have a tear duct condition which can lead to "Dry Eye" later on.  Just heard of a 7 month old springer pup last week diagnosed with the condition and one of my own cockers has it too.

Personally if it is yellow discharge, I would go to the vet to be on the safe side. We caught an early eye infection with our boy as we were also concerned about yellow discharge even though he used to get quite a little build up of gummy stuff from his eyes.

Their eyes are so precious. Check with the vet just to be safe.

Tali has had similar for a few weeks. He's just changed to Fulcithalmic Vet which is a broad spectrum antibiotic. He also gets a black snotty discharge from his right nostral. Some mornings he has woken with it completely blocked and crusty. However, fingers crossed he is responding a bit on this. If this doesn't work then we will do a culture to find the issue. I'm aware it could be tear duct getting blocked as Keli suffered with that.

Certainly anything yellow/white requires a vet check. Also a good thing for the eyes is wiping them with used chamomile tea bags.
