Title: training treat breakthrough
Post by: Gromit on June 11, 2010, 02:40:32 PM
Just discovered a special recipe for tuna bake which is perfect for training not to nip, mouth, bark, steal or destroy furniture. The secret: forget the recipe and put too much flour in, the resulting stuff really sticks their teeth together :lol2:

Think I'll have to try that on Louis :lol2:

On the subject of training treats, here's my standby recipe if I'm short of time and ingredients.

Keep a jar of sardine and tomato paste (or similar smelly paste) in the kitchen cupboard for dog treat emergency use. Spread it on some bread, no butter, and bake it in the oven for several minutes until quite firm but not brittle. Cut into tiny squares.

The paste is also a good way of disguising nasty tablets.

Apologies for slightly hijacking the thread :D

Good idea. Will try that. I always seem to have run out when I need some in a hurry. My two just do anything for fishy treats (except sit, stay, down, in your beds, leave etc) Only kidding, they're not too bad really.
