Hi there,
I have recently moved in with my partner and he has a 2 1/2 yr old working Cocker. I have two Westies who are 12.
They have settled reasonably well although not quite sure who is the dominant male as the Cocker wants to be but one of the Westies has already tried to take this place.
The main areas we need your help is that the Cocker is very possessive over toys and also my partner. Every time we are away from him either upstairs or in another room he will cry non stop. He will also do this in the morning until we get up.
When we get up he is crazy and it proves near impossible to calm him to get his lead on.
Does anyone have any advice on what we can do?
Many thanks in advance.
Kathy

:shades: Sorry unable to help you with this situation as we have a very possessive cocker too, am interested to hear any replies that you may get as we cant even get close to each other without a little cocker pushing her way in between us :luv: :005:

I think you need to give this dog time to adapt, you have moved in with two new dogs so things are bound to be a little uncertain.
Is the cocker in the same house he lived in before, or have you moved to a new property?
I'd also let the dogs sort out their own relationship as long as none of them are getting injured.

My dog would cry a lot when we were away as well, but recently she has been geting a lot better. She has a crate she sleeps in and I started to send her in with something really nice to chew (a Kong stuffed with some Primula cheese and a frozen bar of liver bread, yummy!), and leave for a bit, so that she started to associate me going away with her getting something really nice, and I'll be back in a bit. Gradually I built up the amount of time I left her, and started leaving the door of the crate open as well, so the routine for me going out now is just to send her to bed and give her a stuffed Kong. She can get up a stretch her legs around the house but she's much calmer than she was and doesn't chew anything else in the house. She's fine for up to three hours now.
She gets a bit crazy when it comes to walk time now as well but you just need to be patient and not put the lead on until his bum is on the floor. If necessary pick up the lead, hold it for a few seconds and put it down again. Pick it up when he's calm again and put it down whenever he's too hyper. It takes a while! Good luck.
