Title: Help re fireworks
Post by: ali2010 on November 06, 2010, 06:15:45 PM
Albert seems to be so scared by the fireworks, been to pet shop and got him some herbal stuff to calm him (valerian etc in it), have also tried Ttouch on his ears as someone had suggested in a previous post.  Basically he barked continuously last night from 5.30pm to 10pm, fireworks have started to go off again tonight and he's started barking again.  Anyone any other ideas?  Think will get him a thundershirt for next year but could do with some tips to calm him down now?   Thanks Alison

PS just a bit about Albert, he's 6 years old and is a resuce dog who came to live with us 4 weeks ago, he also has separation anxiety, we have booked a beahviourist to come to see us on Monday to help us with the separation anxiety and other issues e.g he won't let us near him to groom him

Sorry Albert is having a hard time with the firworks - Livie's not keen on them either & I put her on Scullcap & valerian too - which seems to be working but we did start her 5 days ago. It sounds like he's got a few issue that he's coping with at the moment & he's only been with you 4 weeks - all of which I hope, you get some help with from the behaviourist  ;) :luv:
Another COLer posted  that she put her dog under a duvet to comfort him last night & it helped & he went of to sleep - maybe that might help for Albert too  :dunno:    Hope someones else comes along soon to help - good luck ali  ;)

My 3 are totally ignoring them  :D , would it help if you had lots of background noise (radio / tv) so that the fireworks aren't so noticeable??

Hope he settles soon  :bigarmhug:

I found this video by Top Barks and I have tried it last night and tonight.  Our new girl is not one bit bothered, but the boys get quite wound up, the cheese has definitely distracted them, only problem is they are stuck to me now, can't move an inch!!  :005:  Look like I am wearing cocker slippers they are so close to my feet  :D

I can't offer much advice other than ignore the fireworks and if he reacts do not give eye contact. Hope both of you have had a better evening today :bigarmhug:

Thankfully mine were not too bothered - in fact except for a couple of humungous bangs   >:D they have slept through them - mind, I did have a recording of the Edinburgh Tattoo on which I am sure helped ;)
