Title: Figure of 8 - Clever Boy!
Post by: Mel on June 10, 2011, 12:17:02 AM
Tali has learnt to do a figure of 8 known as 'eight'. Ok so it is effectively a 'spin' followed by turn or the other way round if he wants, but he's got it.

We are just about fluent on 'Tali, Den' with a 'sit' or 'down stay', but I'd really love to teach 'crawl' or 'creep', does anyone know how best to go about this, please?

For the crawl get him to go into a down position first (and on a comfortable surface). Hold a treat on the floor in front of his paws then drag it slowly away from him. He should take a go at crawling forward. If you use clicker click the movement and treat. If you don't use clicker just mark the behaviour with whatever positive word you use then treat from another hand. Then rinse and repeat making it a little harder each time until eventually build up to a full on crawl. Once he has the behaviour consistently you can put the name to it. Good luck :) if this doesn't work for Tali you can try getting him to go reach underneath something like a low table or chair and teach that way.
