Title: Thomas - 9 years old and slightly overweight - limping
Post by: Julian on June 12, 2011, 11:49:28 PM
Hi

Looking for some advice.

Thomas has either sprained or pulled a muscle in one of his front legs, and is now limping.

He will let me feel all round his leg and has no obvious injury to his paw.

I feel that rest will sort this out, but what more is there that I can do to help speed his recovery?

Rest is good. When Keli sprained his leg I put a bandage on it for support. He may need the vet for anti inflammitories, see how he is in the morning.

I would suggest getting some weight off him too as it'll help his joints.

Def agree with this  ;)

If it is a sprain or similar it may sort itself or the vet may give you some Metacam for him  ;)

I would certainly check for grass seeds too - they are about early this year  >:D

So sorry to hear poor Thomas has a poor leg, paw.  Have you tried RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.  I expect the last one will be hard, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Also if he is slightly overweight, perhaps put him on a little diet to get him back to the comfort range of weight.

Wishing you luck with everything - poor ol' Thomas.  Get better soon.  Sending love and hugs :bigarmhug: :luv:
