Since she was little Millie has all ways found reason to put her bum down and decide she wont go anyfurther!
I could be sitting their for ages waiting for her ill wait about five minutes usually when she does I won't tug her lead ill just move a little to see if she gets the hint if she doesnt ill pick her up move her forward and this usually does the trick.
Throwing a treat for her works too but eventually she gets bored of chassing and we go back to square one. She is 6 months old now getting a bit big to lift tbh. I don't know why she still does it she doesn't fear people or dogs anymore theirs nothing comming and suddenly a dog will appear and she has to sit and watch -.-
I don't quite get her behavior she isn't tired just stubborn!!
Was wondering if anyone else has come across this behavior before??
Is it a phase ??? She has done it since i started walking her after her last vaccination has never stopped it.

I'm glad it's not just mine then :005:. Maisie does this and she's now two years old. I've yet to figure out why. She does it more with my OH when he walks her and I wonder if that's because she wants me to come out with her too....I could be wrong though. We never pick her up, just encourage her in a cheery voice. Eventually she gets up and moves on with waggy tail :005:
Only very occasionally there has been a reason for it that I'm aware of. For example she still refuses to go down a lane where my husband was knocked over by a bike whilst on a walk with her. She sits firmly on her bum and nothing will get her to move. She'll do the route in reverse though :lol2:.

Another one here >:( :005:. Brodie's three now and a complete nightmare to walk. A treat sometimes works, especially if it's very tasty, but there are times she'll get it into her head that she's not going one step further and nothing can change her mind >:D. If it's raining/been raining/going to rain then walkies are usually a no-no.
One thing that helps is walking her with my neighbour's dog, but she's even been a bit difficult over that in the last few weeks. She's been checked over by the vet several times but they can't find anything - I think she just prefers to go small walks and get home and snuggle on the sofa :luv:.

Jasmine is nearly six months old now and she sometimes does this, turning around and going in another direction sometimes helps, talking to her in a cherry voice sometimes does it, ive tried treats also, she especially doesnt go far in the rain and tends to plonk her bum down when shes had enough, she is walking further in the rain tho as once upon a time it was to the end of the drive and back lol!!

Millie is in full health so I don't think its a health problem I think cockers that are co owned are usually attatched both by the sounds of things and dont like to go to far with out the other person preasent though millie has got over her fear of dogs now its a lot easier to get her to walk if theirs dogs or joggers in front of her, sometimes she wont budge the only way is backward the way we came!

Jennybee (I think we will pop up forever in these posts :lol2:) Another stubborn bum here. Would love to know 'why' but there is nothing the vet can find. Willow has gone slightly better since we've had Katie (not for one minute suggesting getting another dog) she seems to think she's missing something so it helps. Hope it gets better for you. Sarah

Willow sees her walks as a means to an end, get the afternoon walk out the way = TEA TIME ! I was the same Monsterspaniel, love walking , Katie helps, but she's the other end of the spectrum, never stops. Funny little things aren't they.

The weird thing is, Brodie LOVES her little walks - she's always at the door at walkie time whining to get out :dunno:. Then she'll walk so far and then just stop. Very strange, I will never understand what goes on in that little head of hers :luv:.

Are you sure Brodie wasn't born on the 10th December 2006 ?? :005: Willow would love to go to the post box and back which is about 5 mins max. That's all though >:D

:005: they are so similar aren't they - they must be related in some way :lol2: :luv:. There's a particular walk that Brodie loves going on - but it's only 10/15 minutes long. She loves going to the post box too, but only once or twice a week for some reason - any more often and the brakes go on >:( :005:

I posted with the same problem with our Dillon a short while ago. Absolutely desperate and with all the same 'symptoms' as Millie! Dillon is also 6 months old now.
We tried all the suggestions given, stopping turning around, waiting patiently, throwing treats.... all to no avail. What made it particularly annoying is that on an off-lead walk he never 'stopped' he would go on and on if allowed to...no problem! He is not a nervous dog, loves other dogs/people, although he does appear cautious at times.
However, recently, Dillon has had a throat infection and we were advised to avoid a collar while he was on medication so there would be no strain (fat chance!) on his neck when walking (lol!) or becoming too excited (as this made him cough). So.....we invested in a harness, something we had been considering anyway due to the lack of walking, in the hope it might improve things. Guess what...it has! For the past four days we have been out once or twice a day for at least 30 mins each time with no stopping or at least that is the case if we are together......if I am on my own he has put the brakes on a couple of times but it seems a little easier to jolly him along. We are hoping that this continues and eventually he will come to enjoy his walks as much as his off-lead adventures.
I must say this behaviour has really taken us by surprise I have never heard of a dog not loving their walks before - it was certainly not the case with our 3 previous doggies! We too love to walk and it was really the main reason we decided the time was right for another dog so this has been a real concern for us >:(

Enjoy it while you can Millie was like this at first with a harness but then the symtoms came back!! We only went back to the collor because once we got her groomed she was too small for her harness we need a new one ideal for a sixth month old pup :>
Had a 2 hour walk yesterday (didn't feel that long) Millie kept stopping a lot but then we got to the park she hates and sshe spotted a cute puppy and decided she was capable of walking in their after all!! Ive found if their are other dogs around she is suddenly eager to walk again so I usually end up tagging behind other dog owners, also found kicking stick, throwing my keys helps too,Millie is very responsive when their is something of interest to her.

Sorry....didn't realise you had tried a harness, just trying to help. Luckily for us Dillon still seems to be doing well with it so we will hope for the best.

Another 'sitting down' dog here :D Pebbles nearly 5 months has always done this. Sometimes worse than others. TBH sometimes she's not even keen to go on a walk which seems really strange. Once she's out she tends to sit down or lie down even when she sees children/people or other dogs in the distance and just wants to watch them for ages hoping they will come to talk to her.
Anyone also experience the problem with constant sniffing of everything on the walk which means very slow progress? >:(

YES Millie has to sniff every lampost, wall corner and tree and theirs a lot of them!

Diesel also feels the need to plank his bottom down and stare at passing dogs and people - he wont move on til he is 100% sure that they arent going to come back and play with him then he starts moving again :005:

I don't know if others have had problemss were their dogs get scaired and put their tale between their legs when out on leads???
something else ive notticed Millie has done since she was old enough to go out.

Ohh dear. My Lucy (mum) is 5yrs and sits down on a walk when she has had enough. Poppy (daughter) 3yrs can never get enough walking so it's a problem. I go to very safe walks and when Lucy sees that we are not going to stop she comes rushing. :lol2:
