I've just had another look at the new puppy Bear's photos. I wonder if my little Toby is too small for his age. He was born on the 1st June and is still smaller than my not very big (but fat!) cat. Bear looks much bigger and is only a week or two older.
Does anyone know how big puppies should be?

Don't worry some puppy's do look bigger...Are's had a very slow start but no dowt it will catch up(our little gemma that is)...Are Peggy is small compaired to other cockers..every dog is different in there own way so do not worry your self....
They all have different metabolisms in the way they grow up...

Oh thank you. I sound like a worried parent don't I? :D

Roly was a big pup and at 10 weeks was almost the size of 6 month old Misha. Like us they come in all shapes and sizes ;)

Ahhhhhh, dont panic - my groomer has the most adorable blue roan who was a teeny tiny puppy by anyone's standards and even now, fully grown up, is dwarfed by my Eddie, who was massive compared to his litter mates - I think it's perfectly normal :luv:

My friend has got a cocker a couple of weeks younger than Darcey. At first her dog was HUUUGE and made Darce look really weedy :005:. Then Darcey shot up and was bigger for a bit. Now I think they're roughly the same. If you look at a class of children they're not all the same size. :D

Willow is only tiny, and im like you I worry like mad but she is fine the vet is happy. Most people think she is only about 4 months old and she is nearly 9.

They are just like people, all grow at different rates, some tall and some not so tall. ;)

My Moo-Moo is nowhere near the breed standard size.
He's 6 and half now so definately stopped growing and his nickname amongst others(!) is midget Moo-Moo :005:!

Ah thank you for all your posts, I'll stop worrying now. My son says I "fuss" too much :D

Pam, I've noticed that my Toby sometimes looks bigger in photos than he really is. I wouldn't worry.

I looked at Bear and thought how much more chunky he is than Penny though she's a week or so older, but as others have said, all puppies grow at different rates. When we picked up Penny, there was another pup from a different litter but the same age who would have made two of her!
I don't think you need to worry about Toby.

Ideally 2-3% of their own body weight as adults when puppies it can be much less
example Millie is 7-8 kg she should be getting 700 grams a day but thats a bit much for her I feed her 400-450grams most owners go by eye if their dog is too fat feed less if they need to be fed more feed more. but 400-450 a day does Millie fine anymore and she would get over weight very easily I add the extra 50grams on as she will get a full kong at lunchtime to keep her occupied while I have my lunch upstairs and watch murder she wrote :> she was nearly called Jessica
all her meals are weighed at 200 grams she is fed twice a day but she lost interest in her third meals last month and now does fine on two.

I wouldn't worry, they grow at different rates even from the same litter, Charlie shot up and used to tower over his brother and sister. I used to worry the opposite, that he was going to be huge but he slowed down and his brother caught up.

As long as he is healthy then don't worry. My Archie was 1.6kg when I got him at 9 weeks. He is about 10kg at 17 months, so on the smaller side, but believe me he has enough energy for 2.

Thanks again for all your positive posts. Toby weighed 3.3 kg when I took him to the vet at 13 weeks so I probably am being REALLY neurotic :lol2:. I haven't been weighing his food lately though. Just giving him as much as he wants at each mealtime because he seemd so hungry when I first brought him home. He's certainly not fat so hopefully that's OK.
