Hi everyone!
I'm Harriet, 24 and I've recently moved to Lincoln to live with my boyfriend Zach.
My parents who live near Leicester own a 5 year old blue roan cocker spaniel called Poppy who I love to bits and I visit as often as I can (I think my parents think I'm visiting them! :D )
Me and Zach would love to have our own in the not too distant future. Well actally, I would love to have one, Zach prefers stupidly big non-cuddly dogs like German Shepards >:( we'll see who wins!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on this site

Welcome Harriet, are we placing bets, I think may e the odds would be 100-1 in your favour. I am Lynn and have Selby a blue roan show type and he is 2 years old.
We now live in a flat so a cocker is the ideal size, we have always had big dogs, just re ember the most breeds of big dogs are born half trained but cockers die half trained...lol
The site is addictive so be careful. Would be nice to see a picture of your mums dog.

Hi Harriet
I have a blue roan show girl Poppy :luv: who will be 2 years old in February.
COL is great and will have the answer to all your questions about cockers and lots lots more ;)
My bets on the cocker to win too :lol2:

Thanks for the replies.
We have been really lucky with Poppy as she is generally well behaved and calm however she does have her mad moments and her spaniel tendencies show from time to time so I think I am prepared for the potential problems when owning/training a cocker. Anyway, when I say me and my partner are planning to get one of our own we are thinking in 6months time ish. I'd like to think we are fairly sensible (not sure about him sometimes!) and wouldn't rush into anything that needs long term commitment like owning a dog.
Pop-Star - Apparently Poppy is a common name for blue roan cocker spaniels, I know a few!
mlynnf50 - I've posted a photo of Poppy in the photo section if you want to see.

I was brought up having black labs and always thought i would own one myself (my sister just got one). However 15 years ago a friend had a blue roan and i fell in love hence a year later i got my own and she was the best ever dog and when she died just under 2 months ago i started to look for another dog to fill the void she left. I thought miniature poodle , lab or a jack russel. You guessed it i got another working cocker as other dogs cant compare in the love and daftness they supply in my opinion. Plus we have cats and children and i think they are one of the best kind of dogs to get along with both.....eventually(try telling the cats :-\)

Hiya and welcome Harriet
This forum is a great place to share cocker stories and photos, and i've learnt an awful lot from it too. Freya is the first dog i've owned, so i've needed all the advice and help I could get! :005:
Good luck in your mission to get a cocker pup, I hope you win! :luv:
I'm Danni by the way and Freya is my two and a bit year old working cocker :luv:

Hello and welcome :D I have two Golden Retrievers as well as a Cocker. They're 8, 6 and 4 years, and two have birthdays coming up in the next couple of months :luv:
And all the German Shepherds I've ever known have been cuddle monsters :luv:

Hi Harriet. Poppy looks lovely :luv: We also have a five year old blue roan, also from Leicestershire, doubt they are related but Willows birthday was Saturday just gone. We also, have a working type, Katie, mad as a box of frogs :005: I'm sure you'll win Zach over, who could resist a cocker. Sarah.

Thanks for all the lovely responses everyone and welcoming me to the forum. It's good to know people are on my side on my mission to get a cocker!, hopefully in the new year I'll break my other half too!

Hi Harriet :D
Poppy is a poppet :luv:
We had bigger dogs until we
accidentally got cockered by our
Ellie(and Pepper in my avatar)
Cocker converts here!
Oo you could take Zach on
a CoL meet up in your area (if
there is one) he would see the
rich diversity amongst them!

8 Hairy Feet- I'd love to go on a COL meet up. Zach would probably laugh at the idea, he doesn't understand my love of cocker spaniels, though he would probably come if I nagged him enough!
-
There is a section for "meet-ups"
Keep an eye on it for something
near you, you could take Poppy :luv:
or not.
A lot of CoL folk have worker strain
cockers so that would be good
for him to see;so very different to
show strain.

To update you all...I have finally managed to convince the other half that we NEED a cocker spaniel in our lives. So we are due to pick up our new addition on 27th January :luv: (which just feels a lifetime away!). It all happened a lot quicker than I thought it would but we went to visit a lot of breeders and we are happy with our choice. We picked an orange-roan girl (show type). I'll upload some photos soon for you all to see.
Just wanted to let you all know that the Cocker won over the German Shepherd!
-
Yay! Way to go Harriet :D
Not too long to wait now...
Roll on the 27th!
