Before I start no berating me for using Bakers I just want views or experience of it thanks
Sid has always had a dodgy tummy from being a pup and I have tried lots of foods ranging from Royal canning, JWB, Harringtons, etc etc. fresh Beef, chicken & lamb cooked just gives him the runs for weeks. Sid has been settled with Bakers for a fair while now and produces pick upable poo's. He is also a fussy eater.
I was chatting with a lady yesterday who was distrasught as her cocker had 10 teeth removed due to an infection in the gum. The vet blamed the Bakers saying it was coated in glucose and should come with a health warning. She has now started to feed tinned food with a biscuit mixer. This is not something I fancy as I hate the smell and prefer dried.
Now I don't know what to do and would like any comments if you have had the same experience with Bakers

If you look at the ingredients of Bakers dog food you will see that "various sugars" are usually the 4th or 5th ingredient listed, which explains the bad breath and poor dental health of the other dog.
If you don't want to change the brand food your dog is on then I would suggest brushing the dog's teeth more often, giving it an enzyme additive to the water to help with oral hygiene, or giving it recreational bones or organic chewy treats (bull pizzles, tendons, etc) to aid with cleaning of the teeth and gums.

My Dad's dog had horrific breathe on Bakers (it would literally bring tears to your eyes).
It improved on a better quality kibble.
It has virtually disappeared now she is raw fed.

Several of our dogs have very sensitive tums. We feed some of them tinned chappie with a mixer and the others are on naturediet. Even the fussiest two who are also prone to colitis do well on this.

I fed my old cross collie Bakers sensitive (dodgy tum) and he suffered from constant skin irritation also seemingly a side effecr of Bakers ph34r

A friend of mine used Bakers and her dog had 8 teeth removed at just 4 yrs old vet put it down to Bakers :'(

I would do everything in my power not to feed Bakers, and this thread confirms my concerns

I was advised not to give Cassie Bakers as it is full of additives. Cassie was hyper on it, think of all the colours and shapes ! Dogs don't give a monkeys about shape and colour of the food, it's an advertising gimmick for us gullible humans !! BUT in saying that,. so I'm not jumped on, many must feed their dogs with it as it seems to sell well so must be ok for some dogs

I find Harringtons to work well with my fosters and sometimes add a little butchers tripe mix or chappie to it - suitable for all ages from 8 weeks :blink:

I normally feed Missy JWB but from time to time i run out. ( being a bloke dont plan things to great :005: ) If thats the case i can just nip the shop down the road which sells Bakers.
I find the same as you she stinks like really really stinks she never normally does until she eats that stuff.

Thanks for the advice I think the Bakers is going to have to go It will have to be trial and error with the dodgy tum so I will have to take a bottle of water on a walk rather than a poop bag >:(

Can I suggest you try Skinners field and trial duck and rice. They will send you a couple of sample packs which are very generous in size so should give you and idea if it suits.

I have had various issues with bad poos on many kibbles but both of mine have no issues on Arden grange lamb and rice

Not remembering the main alleged meat ingridient in bakers - is it chicken or something else ???
asking as if it is chicken then stick to a chicken food what ever you change to if it is not chicken then try duck or salmon and hopefully that will help
some dogs has reactions to certain foods even if just mild and runny poos
Trial and error me thinks, but can I just say that when changing change grandually and give your dog a good month or more on the new food before you decide that it is not right

What about Chappie? One of mine had food intolerances/allergies and this was the only non-prescription food that didn't give him the runs.

if he has a sensitive tummy I'd suggest Skinners Salmon and Rice, The duck is quite rich. mine all were a bit runny with duck!

Tilly has inflammatory bowel disease and last year she was very ill with it, she was hospitalised several times, lost nearly 6kg in weight and at one point couldn't digest anything other than tiny amounts of steamed rice and cottage cheese. We tried every prescription diet under the sun and she stabilised a bit on Purina DCO but then I stumbled across Skinner's F&T duck and rice as well and she has never looked back on it, it's been miraculous for her.

if you go for the Fish or Lamb you may find it better for his tummy

Chappie sorted him out when he was a pup it was on vet's advice but it only comes in original and chicken(which is hard to find) he started to turn up his nose to that and wouldn't touch it.
