Lucy is getting spayed next week 3 months after the end of her first season. The Vet has asked if we want a blood test before the anaesthetic and wonder if anyone else has had this done this as we havent had this with our other cockers?
We all worry at these times and this just seems another complication.
Thanks :-\

Yes they asked me if I wanted it with Lyla and I said yes. Just to see if there was anything brewing that I needed a heads up on! ph34r

I always let them give them a blood test before any GA just to see if any problem is lurking around.
Its about £30 but well worth every single penny for piece of mind.

I agree with others, firstly it will detect if there are any abnormalities which means op may need delaying or problems that may need to be monitored or treated following the spay. If the blood tests are fine then see it as a baseline for the future as should she become ill later in life there is a record of her results when they were normal.

Wish I'd had it done when mine were spayed specially Indie who was spayed at 6months and who I later lost at a year old due to kidney failure - whilst it may not have saved her as it was a genetic fault (FN), I would have been able to be better prepared and informed. Indie went through a lot of unnecessary treatment which would have never made any difference to the eventual outcome.

Thanks for this advice, I have just been quoted £100 for the blood test by my vet on top of the £190 for spaying. Another reccomended vet nearby charges £170 for the operation and only £50 for the blood test so we are considering changing vets as ours we feel is only average and still havent seen the same vet twice as it is a different one everytime. As always it is a worry knowing what to do for the best.
